I have used both, stand and floor stand, enjoy both for what they are. After recently getting the new Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2, I do love and prefer floor stands. Plus, they’re gorgeous. Listen between 70-80dB.
Thanks for this. An informative video. 🙂
Floorstanding is better for all rooms and performance.
Impressive video, Peter Tyson. Looking forward to your next upload. I hit the thumbs up icon on your content. Keep up the excellent work. Your detailed analysis on room interaction was particularly enlightening. How do you recommend optimizing speaker placement in smaller rooms to avoid muddiness while still achieving a rich sound?
Very well said 👏 But the main question is good standmount speaker with 6.5" Driver size 2-Way design with subwoofer can compitate with floor standing speakers 3-way design especially for movie watching to achieve the best cinematic experience both case is a dedicated room (medium size)
If you already have speaker stands and a subwoofer, monitor speakers are generally significantly cheaper than floorstanding speakers. For a similar amount of money, you can buy a higher-line bookshelf speaker.
Excellent video. I've had both in my average sized room and much prefer the floor standing speakers but it wasn't always like that. Splashed out last year on a pair of Monitor Audio Gold 200 from PT and at first I hated the sound quality ( build quality is fantastic). But after a period of run in and I mean weeks not days they sound terrific. I've actually moved them further back to the wall and the bass is spot on
How about a bit of both, I’ve got lintons, I’ve owned many bookshelves and also many floor standers, to be honest I prefer bookshelves, easy to place, easier to resell etc. but I love mid way sized like Jbl and Wharfedale etc I think and you get the best of both.
Team both. I had a pair of active stand-mounted speakers, which I used both for music and connected to my TV. The sound was good, but I realised that I could fit a pair of floor-mounted speakers in the same place. Allowing for better overall sound and a little more bass (I do not have the space for a subwoofer). So after doing some research, I bought a Roksan K3 integrated amplifier, and then a pair of Focal K2 Aria 926 speakers, and moved the stand mount speakers upstairs into my office.
As far as small room is concerned I don't think one can beat standmounts with a stereo pair of active musical subwoofers. The flexibility of being able to adjust the low-end gain of each stereo speaker is particularly beneficial when the stereo speakers are not equal in distance to their side walls. It's almost like bass control without the DSP Fabulous advice btw 🎉
As an acoustics consultant, I can say this is one of the better videos on how to pick speakers (simple example) for more folks than will admit they really have no clue (ex/ 8ft/2.5m X 14ft/4.24m X 23ft/7m is a small room)! Great job.
I have an open plan kitchen living area and when I put music loud through the tv I think bass isn’t a good fit for the room BUT is there anyway other than turning the tv up loud, that you can do, to help you buy the right speakers and not make the wrong purchase. Listening in a showroom won’t be the same as in a home ?
More or less depends on the room and what kind of music you're listening to (and how loud you want it), doesn't it? I have several pairs of "bookshelf/standmount" speakers positioned on stands/cabinets and hooked up to switches so I can easily change from one speaker/amp configuration to another with the push of a button or two, depending on the source and my mood. Compact, efficient two- and three-way speakers (acoustic suspension or rear/front/bottom-ported + a powered sub that's rarely needed) are more than enough to create a captivating soundstage and fill my medium-sized room without shattering my eardrums. (I listen mostly to acoustic and electric jazz, chamber music and pop/rock recorded in the '50s-'70s, anyway.) But I don't have enough space to accommodate multiple bulky floorstanders. Besides, what would happen to the feng shui?!?! ;-)
Perfect coverage. The best advise is only to suggest what you might included in your listening, not what you should have. Listen to systems well outside your comfort zone as too big, too ugly and too expensive. Just listen to some so called high end to hear what you might achieve. Then audition those in your budget and ascetic considerations. It is not only the best sound matched with the right electronics to power them but you have to live with them and if they are hard to use, don't fit in, get something else. Only a direct A/B comparison will establish which is the better. Few will be clearly better at all times. Listen to one system this week and another the next isn't going to prove anything,; audio memory is not very good unless one system is really bad. At a certain price point it is less about better or worse but which can I live with the easiest. On their own back home any difference you may have heard disappear. Spend once but to your satisfaction.
Size moves air 👍🏻
I got Amati Tradition and Beolab 9 on me smaller speakers I’ve used subs like in Beolab 3 I’m thinking of connecting Beolab 19 to connect to the Dev 1000 exp/pro To compliment the Amatis Amati bass is good at high volume the 19 might help at lower volumes ????
Ran BS w 1.7i's extra SPL
"...will sound much better when placed on dedicated speaker stands..." which you happen to sell . This is just an advert.
I prefer Bookshelf speakers because they're easier to set up properly in smaller rooms. I use subwoofers to fill in the low end and all is good! My 7.3.4 sound system consists of 6 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains, 2 for the side channels, and 2 for the rears), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 4 SVS Prime Elevation speakers ceiling mounted using MOUNT-IT! brackets for precise positioning to ensure accurate Dolby Atmos, 2 SVS SB-3000 subwoofers up front and an SVS SB16-Ultra subwoofer in the rear. The system is powered by a Parasound Halo A52+ 5 channel amplifier powering the 5 bedlayer speakers and a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A AVR powering the rear speakers and the 4 Prime Elevation speakers for Dolby Atmos.
