The King ceded the territory to India, so J&K belong India. Pakistan has no claim over that region.

Kashmir has a deep-rooted connection with Hindu religion, culture, and philosophy, dating back thousands of years—long before the advent of Islam in the region. After India and Pakistan were separated from British India In 1947-1948, Pakistani militants invaded Kashmir against its ruler maharaja of Kashmir. Facing an invasion and the threat of losing his territory, Hari Singh(king of Kashmir )signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947, officially making Jammu & Kashmir a part of India. Kashmir was quiet and beautiful state until 1989 until Pakistan sponsored terrorism started in Kashmir. Pakistan is responsible for exodus of Hindu Kashmiri pandits out of Kashmir to drive and create muslim majority Kashmir.Pakistan is claiming Kashmir based on its Muslim majority population. Please remember, Pakistan should not forget that India has more Muslims in India than Pakistan. It doesn’t mean india will be part of Pakistan. Kashmir is an integral part of India.

I am surprised that in this video ABC News has not mentioned the basic cause of the Kashmir Dispute. When the British granted independence to British India they decided to partition it into basically two states, i.e. India and Pakistan. The Muslim majority areas constituted Pakistan while the non-Muslim areas (i.e. Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist) became India. However, British India also comprised a sizeable number of Princely States that were given the right to join either India or Pakistan. All, except three states, joined India or Pakistan based on the religion of the majority of their respective populations. Of these three states, two (Junagadh and Hyderabad) had Muslim rulers but the majority of their populations were Hindu. When their rulers expressed a desire to opt for Pakistan, the Indian Army occupied them and forcibly prevented this from happening. In the third state, i.e. Kashmir, the ruler was a non-Muslim while the vast majority of the population was Muslim. As the ruler began considering joining India, his people rose in revolt. The Indian Army now marched in to forcibly ensure that this Muslim majority state would become part of Hindu India. This resulted in the 1948 Kashmir War between India and Pakistan. By 1949, India felt compelled to request the UNITED NATIONS to intervene and effect a ceasefire. Pakistan agreed to this subject to its demand that the ceasefire would be followed by a UN sponsored Plebiscite in which THE KASHMIRI PEOPLE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT OF SELF-DTERMINATION TO DECIDE WHETHER THEY WOULD LIKE TO JOIN PAKISTAN OR INDIA. The Security Council also declared that Kashmir would have the status of being a DISPUTED TERRITORY. India agreed to this and thus the UN Security Council passed its historic PLEBISCITE RESOLUTION OF 1949. Incidentally, the disputed status of Kashmir was then enshrined in Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. Unfortunately, India later backtracked on its commitment to hold this plebiscite. Every time Pakistan re-raised this issue in the UN Security Council, its efforts would be blocked by a SOVIET VETO. More recently, the Indian Govt has also revoked Article 370 and declared that 'Kashmir is now an INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA. Resultantly, the sense of frustration amongst the Kashmiri people continues to rise while the situation continues to simmer and blows up every now and then. The only solution to the problem is for the World Powers to ensure that "THE KASHMIR DISPUTE IS RESOLVED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WISHES OF THE KASHMIRI PEOPLE."
