One of my best tips is to avoid the dryer after washing. I've had so many pieces of good clothing wear faster because I was either in a rush of just lazy about proper care. Thank you for the wonderful tips, I always look forward to your videos. You are so well spoken and charming.
my tip for making clothes last longer is to always air dry them and read the labels!
My fiancé just found out how bad Polyester us for people to wear and now I'm realizing most of my clothes are made of Polyester. I'm now searching for these natural fibers in my clothes. Thank you for sharing!
Such a helpful video! I just realized my favorite jeans that have fit me so well for about 3-4 years now are 99% cotton, 1% elastane. I’ve always struggled to find jeans I love 😭 now I know what to look for finally!!
Fabulous and very informative video. I have always taken to synthetic fabrics because I could wash, throw them in the dryer and go. But, since trying to create a long lasting capsule wardrobe, I have become fascinated with natural fabrics. Have you ever done a video on taking care of these particular items? If not, maybe you could think about one on how to clean each of these natural pieces. As always, I look forward to each and everyone of your videos. Great job!
I try not to launder my clothes every time I wear a garment. If I sweat in it a lot or went somewhere where people were smoking etc, of course I’d wash it but if I can get away with it, I just put it back in my closet.
Alpaca and bamboo are also both wonderful natural fibres. So far I have only come across them in knitted fabrics but I agree that natural fibres are my preferred option.
I have a 100% linen duvet set, and it definitely needs to be changed or washed less often than other bed sheet fabrics - even cotton!
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched but I must say I love your descriptions and care tips of the different fibers and I love your voice it’s just so mellow and soothing. Have a lovely day! 💕
I live in the desert. Linen is my absolute summer staple. I seem to sweat in silk but may try it again in the winter.
my shopping routine has improved so much since i started watching this channel. thanks for the great info!
Hi Audrey, you are aaaaamazing! I have totally changed my outlook on clothes and my life style because of you. I'm obsessed now with natural fabrics and simplifying my wardrobe and life! Thank you for such awesome videos! 👯♀️
Found this very informative. I also love natural fibers. A nice white Brooks Brothers Blouse with a pair of well fitting cotton jeans paired with a beautiful blazer = perfection. Of course a beautiful leather belt completes this classic look. I am quite a bit older than you Audrey but I have the same fashion sense because well made classic clothing looks good on a gal regardless of age. They are timeless pieces. I am 65 and have yet to purchase a Cashmere Sweater but will now have a better idea how to determine if the Cashmere is top quality thanks to you.
About a hundred years ago when I worked for Banana Republic, we would receive training on fabrics. Origin, care, etc., and it was immensely helpful. I’ve always leaned to natural fabrics personally. Is there anything more comfortable than a cotton tee shirt? Nice video. Thank you!
I started wearing more natural fibres because of sensitive skin and now i am moving towards most of my wardrobe staples being natural fibres because of how they feel and look. They have become my aesthetic. Like any good quality clothes, it is worth the investment because they last longer if well cared for, and they will break down and go back to the earth in the landfill, unlike some synthetics. Because I was concerned about chemicals in dry cleaning (even in my local 'environmentally friendly wet cleaning' cleaners solutions) I did some research on caring for natural fibres and found out that most wool, cashmere, silk etc actually lasts longer if you clean them carefully at home. Things like suits, blazers, winter coats that have two types of fabric--the outside and the lining--obviously are better dry cleaned, because the fabrics will shrink at different rates, and suiting wool is often a very fine weave. I just do it less and air them out really well between wearings. But a lot of single-fabric silk blouses or wool/cashmere sweaters that say 'dry clean only': well, those companies are just trying to cover themselves in case you wash it at home and do something daft like put a silk blouse or cashmere sweater in the dryer or steam-iron it at high heat. I really like Audrey's tip in another video, of putting the item you are handwashing in a bowl in the sink. Works great! Also, the Elizabeth Suzann clothing instagram page recently did a post on getting oil stains out of silk https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj50_4XAel4/?tagged=estipsandtricks
Another natural fiber that I love is rayon. It drapes beautifully and washes well. It softens in the dryer when dried on a delicate setting. Thank you for your wonderful tips! I have learned so much about style, which fits both the city and the country. Additionally, your ideas about the selection of essentials and accessories and how to care for all are so well defined that I now know what to look for, for the long-term investment. Thank you again, Audrey. Please continue on!
Excellent informative video. I just picked up a gorgeous pair of black pants from Toteme , it’s 85% cotton and 15% silk. The silk gives it shine and cotton makes it keep the shape well and it’s pleasant on the body. I think it’s very important to have beautiful fabrics, because the comfortable and pleasant on the body clothes are the ones that I reach for, the most. Also, I’m a cachemire addict, thanks to your videos my love for cachemire exploded and I hunted down on the second hand market quite a few beautiful cachemire sweaters, turtlenecks and cardigans. For this type of fabric I prefer to buy secondhand because it can be too expensive to wear it on a daily basis. Mind you, that I live in Canada and our winters are notoriously long and painful. Have a lovely day and can’t wait to see your next video!
Your way of talking and smile is so calming and relaxing , i feel much better just after listening to you , in addition to a ton of useful infos !
Thank you for this informative video. I love your soothing voice and how you describe everything in full detail. I love natural fibers, I can’t afford them in retail stores but I love to find them in thrift stores. This past I eliminated my polyester clothes with natural fibers, love them. My jeans are only 100% cotton or 98% cotton.
