This is why in the States the Cummings 5.9 litre12 valve engines have become so popular. The only electrical component other than the alternator is the solenoid valve to cut off the fuel. Really inline six cylinder engines are the way to go. Petrol or diesel.

Back in the mid-90s, I had a Vauxhall Cavalier with the 1.7 Isuzi diesel engine that had a mechanical injector pump - it would easily do 52MPG without trying and was bullet-proof, it never let me down and I drove it hard (it was a work car) for tens of thousands of miles. Would love my modern car to have that engine in it!

Thats is superb. The brake pipe expertly bent was a touch of class. I miss working with people like you. Nowadays what I see workmanship wise, or lack thereof, would depress you.

I spent 50 years in the electronics and Software design industry and I fully agree with him - Lose the Electronics and never ever have something with Software in it - It's just more expensive sh1t to go wrong.

I have a ‘95 410d, 5 cylinder Merc, non-turbo, makes about 80hp, but doesn’t ever stop. Also have a Suzuki DR 650 single. Both will run on chippy oil and good wishes!

The guy who installed a computer in the modern car {Circa 1976} was a genius, he likely grew old a Private Island in the Caribbean paid for by the Big -3. Consumers should have found that guy and bought him a 1-way ticket to the moon, because he screwed car buyers for LIFE!
