Been a linux user on & off for the better part of 20 yrs. Loved this video & will attempt to configure me a Proxmox VE

For those looking at this video in the future. The 5950x doesn't have a gpu, you'd need a cpu with a "G " at the end for the onboard hdmi to work. Its the platform, not the mobo. All 7XXX amd cpus have a gpu onboard.
For the newbies out there (like myself) you will need to access your router settings FIRST, from there you can manually configure a "reserved" or "static" IP address for your designated server PC. I was confused for the longest why I couldn't log in next time I booted up the server to keep watching these videos and practice. If you not do this, your PC will be given a new IP randomly within your routers DHCP range every time you turn it on; meanwhile, your Proxmox server will only expect the IP address you typed during setup. Once you do this, then your server will boot properly with no connection issues. I was wrangling my head around this for awhile given my lack of network knowledge but I'll get better!
Very helpful, good production quality.
Great video, much appreciated. Have you ever done a video on storage, the different types, how to divide it up and all the best practices? This is where I struggle big time. Thanks again ♥
The 5950X does not have an iGPU, therefore the HDMI Port does not work - the VGA Port on the other hand is powerd by the onboard ASpeed VGA Controller and is tied in with the IPMI Controller.
I'm setting up a home lab after many years away and I just learned about Proxmox. WOW! I wish I had your videos and Proxmox years ago. Great video, I look forward to the entire series! Thank you.
We rely on Proxmox as our hypervisor and Thirdlane Multi-Tenant as our VoIP platform at our MSP.
I'm missing some explanations: 16:09 > Qemu Agent -> Why you check it? 16:18 > Discard > You are using SSDs, but why did you enable this? On a comment from this video I read: "to enable TRIM on SSDs", which will give you better performance. This is what you should have said on the video. 16:18 > Other bus options, for example: "VirtIO SCSI single"; somewhere in the admin guide from Proxmox, this is recommended because of better performance. 16:18 > "Async IO" is missing there too. I guess because you didn't check the "Advanced" mode. I just saw that the default is: "io_uring"; however somewhere "threads" were recommended because of better performance.
I want to say thank you for everything you do. Thanks to your Ubuntu server book and your channel in general, I got a job in a good company on DevOps engineer. And this is all in a short time, having only Python in my background I am from Russia. Thank you!
Just ordered a mini pc for a Proxmox home env. Great video!
In the "Create VM", around 16:15, you make the leap that "because we're just using SSD... check the discard box". What's the discard box result in, and why does the media type matter? You checked the "Qemu agent" without mentioning why. This is a beginner's tutorial, sorry for the beginner's questions.
I have a 5900x used for a Proxmox server. I'd like suggest about making a video on how to setup AMD BIOS for Ryzen CPUs for high efficiency (low power especially at idle). This can include enabling ASPM, CStates, eco mode, undervolting, etc.
HDMI on your MB port only works with ryzen cpu with a "G" add the end like -> ryzen 5700G...
If you have no proxmox subscription, you may wish to disable the those repositories which trigger an error message while updating
Just started playing with Proxmox and this is a great video and seems to be a great series to start with! Thank you!
I'm 15 minutes in and already want to say thank you. This is a very well done tutorial and I'm learning a ton. Thank you again!
HDMI port is for ryzen with G and PRO parts like 5750G PRO and 5600G 5950x dosen't have GPU support only the G SKUs and the PRO ones you can boot thanks to ASPEED IPMI in your motherboard which has GPU VGA support
