@rick.mz29

Just wanted to point out. Your playlist of building a house from start to finish is still one of the most valuable pieces of information on YT. I have a personal hard backup of the series and it'll be my reference source for when me and my two boys get started on a project like this.

@benjaminwilley3578

My old boss and mentor used to say " perfection is our goal, excellence will be tolerated " . Ken Crocker is no longer with us, but I'm 53 years old and i think back to lessons learnt.

@felurfalas4427

Letting yourself getting progressively more perfect is the best advice I have ever heard for new people getting into this kind of work.

@garylatture8948

The use string like a pro was one most valuable and informative videos I have seen

@luliluli1471

A master class about one of the most important points before the building starts. It's the stablishing the main datum reference for the rest of the measurements.

@chrishynes6091

Dad was a homebuilder in the 60's - 70's. These vids show me what he would have been doing back then.

@markdorman52

All good points. When laying out commercial buildings, we would always construct batter boards well beyond the building corners. They would be laser level, so no error due to terrain slope. Outside wall line (OWL) was clearly noted. Also, footing lines were marked. Then, as earthwork progressed, lines could be removed, then reestablished when equipment and rockwork and utilities progressed. First layout was never degraded or lost as all these other subcontractors and tasks were completed prior to setting footing and wall forms.

@EdsonAndrusIV

Been watching you for close to 10 years sir .
I’ve only been as good as the men before me at these skills I have developed to feed my family and keep the wolves from my door .

You are one of them .

Thank you from Canada .

@heman5954

7:28 I'm so glad you finally mentioned establishing a level line. I've built houses on foundations that were laid out with the assumption that grade was close enough to level and squared the foundations with this assumption. To square up the floor system, I had to adjust the back of the house with one end of the box band hanging over the block an inch and the other in an inch on the block. Luckily it was brick with a roll lock so the esthetic looks ended up fine but if it was a stucco foundation 😢. This is acceptable for a fence or chicken coop but if it's a house, please use batter boards and invest in a good transit level.

@indianacornbread6407

Didn't shoot grade? Ahhh....what's 4"-5" in a world this size, huh?😂 Brother, seriously though, I love watching your channel! It takes me back to when I was just an apprentice brick mason. My uncle taught me all this stuff. I loved the banter twixt all the guys. It was an awesome time in my life and I didn't even know it. You're awesome EC...keep going!💯🙏💪👍

@dkohler5226

Funny, I was watching you do your layout, I'm a retired Commercial Industrial Electrician and ran jobs occasionally, I learned from Carpenters on the job how to do a proper layout from a blue print and to pull an arche using a tape, something they don't teach us Electricians, now retired 47 years later I'm watching your show and recognize the hills behind you in the video, as being central Oregon, I'm from Snohomish and have family in Clatskanie in the timber industry.

@A.X.76

This gentleman just squared a form faster than getting a laser level/ transit out of the truck!

@normanreidy7778

Hey Scott, logic, learning and efficiency of effort - are the most valuable tools in your toolbox. Great video Sir, (as always) Well demonstrated.
