He didn't explain the bond market. Stock is investing in publicly traded companies by buying stock and being paid dividends or losing capital depending on the market. Another option is the bond market, where the investment is in the US government and paid in interest over time, provided the US government doesn't go bankrupt. Selling off a large number of bonds or stock in a time of panic means the investors have lost confidence in their investments. In this case, it meant investors lost confidence in both publicly traded corporations and the US government because both the stock markets and the bond markets dropped, as assets were moved into other world markets public and private, precious metals, or cashed out of circulation. For markets to succeed, they depend on cash flow, buying and selling, inside the US and around the globe. Basically, the tariffs and uncertainty in the outcomes caused investors to panic and move or horde money out of circulation. Trump needed to slow the response and buy time to negotiate tariffs between the US and other trading countries in order to decrease the uncertainty for investors and build confidence in the US publicly traded companies and the US government's stability.

@magicalfrijoles6766

I could explain stocks and bonds to a 10 yr old better than CNN just did. This was awful. Seriously, delete this video and put up a video actually explaining it like you would to someone who has no idea what either is.

Stocks are investing in private companies. Bonds (offen in the form of Treasury Bills) are investments in the U.S. government. Investors were selling off both, which means they had lost faith in American companies and our government's ability to pay its debt. That is a financial collapse waiting to happen so Trump had to stop it.

@jeanneganrude8549

Trump screwing everything up, as always 😖

@bilala8805

Literally didn't explain what you promised right at the get go.... 😅

@susqueflowers

We are not allowed to use the words “ Market Manipulation “ anymore ?

@rmarty550

Who could’ve imagined that a man that bankrupted three casinos wouldn’t know how to run the country and knows nothing about finance.

@catmer9460

Still waiting for the explanation on bond markets

@-Ld

What exactly is the bond market? Well it went down, then it went up, and that's really bad, and there's no reason why it happened. Thanks for watching.

@FredDavisNonduality

Thanks for the recent history lesson. I’d heard about this but not the nuts and bolts that freaked Trump (and everyone else) out completely. 🎉

@andrewmatheson2164

O Canada🇨🇦

@scoro1773

Did CNN just try to say that US treasuries are the "bond market"?

@Bowditch200

You missed some major points and explained nothing. But that doesn’t surprise me CNN.

@dna1238

How does money vanish ?

@BluCityBangN

@jmax.

What exactly is perfect hair? THIS guy's.

@williambigham6678

I can just say what America doesn't want is countries like Japan, China and other countries in Europe start cashing in these t bills in vast amounts it could bankrupt the American economy.

@courtenayblair2279

Remember when Trump announced a crypto reserve? His tariffs rocked stocks and bonds but bitcoin rose... Wanna guess who invested in bitcoin?

@padraigg9508

Everybody could explain why! There is one reason and not a lot of theories as you say. The one reason being that Japan dumped a load of US bonds and they hold the greatest amount of US bonds. This shows a lack of confidence in the US economy and thus the drop in value. And you did not explain the bond market in any way shape or form. This is a pretty poor effort.

@rqztaz

People will not trust him because of how unpredictable he is. As such they will hold onto their cash and trade less

@chipamos

You never explained your subject. I would have started with "BETA" and how it influences the cost of local life.
