Higanona tried to re-write his own Goju-Ryu history using Anichi Miyagi as a puppet. He never even received a rank from Anichi while training with him. His 6th dan was from Miyazato Sensei, 7,8,9th Dans were from a Shorin-Ryu Master he never trained with Yukoku Higa. Taking rank from a Shorin-Ryu master from a totally different style? Can you imagine if a person from another country did what Higaonna did? He would be looked at as a fraud. Higaonna has great technique but a total fraud trying to promote IOGKF using this fake history via Anichi. I interviewed Miyazato and Ken Miyagi the son of Chojun Miyagi many years ago in the house he died in & where the garden dojo was. Higaonna's wife was petrified I was going to go and train at the Jundokan to reveal their fake history of Goju-Ryu. She even asked me why do I want to meet Miyazato at the Jundokan? I told her to hear his side of Goju-Ryu history and. because he trained with Miyagi. I stumbled over this fake history he was promoting. Miyagi never named a successor. Ken Miyagi told me that & also told me Anichi Miyagi was only a kid. Ken told me his dad would have never made Anichi the successor. You can go on YouTube and find a video where Anichi Miyagi names a Russian person his successor. Here it is, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2SKmxRPs2c What happened to Morio? I wrote an article many years ago exposing this fake Goju-Ryu history. Higaona thought that he could promote Anichi because his last name was Miyagi and thought people would just believe him. The American people know the whole story. I could go on forever on this topic. Alana & Morio only cared about making money from this. I wish Higaonna well but this will haunt him forever.
I attended a couple of weekend seminars with Higaonna Sensei back in the early 90s, and I even got him to autograph a copy of his book for me. I don't know much about the politics, but he's a really great teacher and a genuinely nice guy.
Very cool content!!!
I recall Higaonna Morio Sensei saying that, because for a few years, Anichi Miyagi Sensei was Chojun Miyagi's only student so he had Chojun's undivided attention. Anichi Miyagi experienced all the personal tutoring for about 2 years - until Miyagi had other new students, then he had to lead the classes with the newbies. I wouldn't say Anichi Miyagi was the most senior of Chojun Miyagi's students, but he was certainly the last student to study closely with Miyagi Chojun, and to have led the classes under his watchful eye. And he was the only man to have witnessed Chojun Miyagi's final versions of everything from Kata to Hojo Undo, Junbi Undo and heard Chojun Miyagi's final opinions about everything on karate. I recall several old Okinawan shihans used to say Anichi Miyagi was Chojun Miyagi's "Boy-San", like his student/care-taker and general errands boy, instructor to new students, dojo fixer-upper etc. When the Jundokan was first formed, they had to get together and everybody had to demo their versions of the few katas they knew (prior to the war Chojun Miyagi taught each student about 3 or 4 katas), and only the post war student who knew ALL the kata was Anichi Miyagi. It seems, because Chojun Miyagi knew he was dying (having suffered an earlier heart attack), decided he should teach Anichi Miyagi all the katas in case he died. You can actually find the video record of Anichi Miyagi demonstrating all Goju-Ryu kata to the Jundokan, on youtube. Another interesting fact was that when Morio Higaonna Sensei was teaching in Yoyogi, he was often in contact with Yamaguchi Gosei, Kei Miyagi (Chojun Miyagi's Son), Mas Oyama, Hirokazu Kanazawa and other Shotokan Gojukai and Kyokushinkai Senseis - considering the history between these three organizations, it was amazing that they all would get together at the Yoyogi to talk karate.
Hello goju ryu philosopher, please make videos on goju ryu katas it's history and background. We would love to know.thank you.
Can you please supply the link to the blog post you mentioned and also to the source of the interview quote you included.
Do you intend to cover Eiichi Miyazato Sensai?
Don't trust what Morio Higaonna says. He is very much about the money. Morio even goes as far as to discount Seikichi Toguchi as a direct student of Miyagi Chojun in his books about karate which is a preposterous claim to make. Anichi Miyagi was only around 22 when Chojun Miyagi passed away, as you stated, yet Morio claims Miyagi named Anichi as his successor. If that is a lie, which is most likely since all of the main senior student of Miyagi were still alive and well including Yagi, Toguchi, and Miyazato, then, in my mind, Morio is capable of lying about other things historical about Goju-ryu. Miyazato claims to have been both Anichi and Morio's teacher and I'm inclined to believe him over Anichi or Morio. And I highly doubt that Anichi was Miyagi's only student in his last years of his life. Morio lies about the history for monetary reasons from what I can tell. Listen to what Miyazato says in his last interview. Toguchi also has written that Miyagi did not name a successor which I'm most inclined to believe. But if there was a successor, probably Miyazato would've been it since Miyazato was, as far as I know, teaching in the same dojo Miyagi was teaching in. I don't believe Miyazato himself claimed to be the successor but rather his students said this. If you have documentation that Miyazato did claim to be the successor himself, I would be interested to see the document myself (or the interview etc).
Birthday wishes to Morio Higaonna sensei
