Eye-opening! LA is a text book example of how to not do urbanism.
Great insight as always. Parking minimums are well known to significantly increase the cost for new construction of multi-family housing, which is then passed on to new residents and why it seems nearly all new developments are now "luxury" apartments and out of reach for those that need housing the most in LA
I took transit to the Walt Disney Concert Hall this last weekend!
Downtown LA has so much potential. Also, your channel is a great example of quality over quantity. Kudos for bucking the pressures of social media.
"In the end, the orchestra had to serve the parking garage." Yikes!
Thanks for another great video !
Living in dtla was so strange I could get like 4 blocks cutting thru surface level parking lots
I’d love to see a video about Houston and it’s 50/50 parking lot to building ratio downtown
1) as someone who has never been to LA, I keep forgetting LA has a metro system. I wonder of all the media that is made of LA from films to music, does the metro even show up? like all I can think of is the miles of bumper to bumper traffic being shown 2) if the parking space costed 100,000 per, and is 10$ per "evening" it would take like 28 years to pay it back. And that is if they are all filled, every single day. if they are filled only 128 days a year....well we're looking at a century to earn the investment back...so it is probably just paying back the interest of the debt and if they're lucky the upkeep
Another incredible video by an incredibly underrated urbanist. Well done!
Great video! As a Northern Californian with a lot of familial ties down in SoCal, it's great to get this insight on LA's development. I greatly enjoyed my car free trip to DTLA, and it's great to see how this sort of experience could be improved in the future.
So awesome to see another video from you!!
Love your videos, keep it up
Great channel! As a tourist in the stats its always annoying how almost all american cities cater to cars.
Instead of requiring apartment buildings to have parking, developers should have to commit funding for expanding pubic transit to offset the amount of expected tenants.
I found it crazy that LA’s downtown is smaller than the downtown of many suburbs (satellite cities) around NYC.
i love ur videos theyre incredible!!!
The city should start buying up all the surface parking lots and build 60 story low income housing on the lots. Its ridiculous to have any surface parking lots in DTLA.
New video didn’t disappoint!
