Its not that simple. Towards neck has more string sound and slightly less wood timbre. If you point the mic towards the sound hole from the 12th fret position you dont get more wood timbre instead you get sound hole boom. Ive found that if I get too much boom anywhere in these positions or even not the right balance of wood tone string sound and natural frequency response then i move to the far body side and try to boost the mic level without noise. This delivers lots ofhigh mid wood tone, treble (though not as clear as the string tone) and a responsive but not woofy, thuddy muddy bass. 2 mics with phase control is best. Like Norbert Krafts NAXOS setup. I have the AT4081, its great. Checkout my Canon Pacalbel video
