Alright, be honest—have you ever seen the signs before a layoff hit? Or did it blindside you? 👀
This video isn’t about fear—it’s about having a plan BEFORE you need one. If you’re still working, this is your chance to get ahead. So… what’s ONE thing you wish you’d done before losing a job? Or if you’ve been through it, what helped you bounce back? Let’s talk. ⬇

@sactopyrshep

“It's better to be paranoid than blindsided.” Brilliant

@ManhattanRats

I'm concerned that a lot of people are about to be hit really hard, with and without layoffs. Good on you for helping us to protect ourselves. Robert in NYC.

@danabishop9804

Truth. I see my layoff coming after a reorganization where I was demoted. I’ve been trying to get a new job for 5 months. Over 50 and not nearly old enough to retire.

@sactopyrshep

This is the best lay off video I have watched on YouTube.
Realistic and creative. I will share it with every currently employed person I know. Thank you for sharing this.

@TheSnerggly

I am out of work for 16 months now from a very successful tech career of 30 years. One thing I did before the layoffs hit was 1. pay off my car 2. pay off my credit cards. 3. Sold any property that I had, which wasn't much. The next thing I will do is sell off my jewelry and anything I have of any value left. The homeless rate in the City where I live is growing, a lot of the people on the streets are elderly and are not substance abusers, you don't hear about them much unless you ask.

@missdanimack

I watched this entire video with an enormous knot in my stomach. 13 years of free health insurance cost me my job. The company was going through an exercise to "reduce their fringe rate" when I was home recovering from spinal surgery for 6 weeks. When I went to return, my position had been "eliminated". I was completely blindsided.

@Elizabeth-d1n

The best list of practical tips I've ever heard. Buying gift cards? Paying ahead on bills? Getting a line of credit? Setting up an LLC? Fantastic ideas!

@DaisyRivera-e9o

I went thru my savings thinking I’m gonna get hired this month things will get better next month and the next month. It got to the point I finally had to move from my home and renting it out as airbnb! and moved back with my parents at 50 years old ! Talk about ego crushing. Thank you for your reality check.

@carmelbrain7399

I am in Australia, but this sound advice is just as relevant here. Most people think they are immune from layoffs

@recherche4528

I was fired after 30 years at the same company . My experience went from a collaborative, healthy relationship with my boss until he was replaced with an incompetent, egomaniacal one. I thought I was “safe” as I thought the CEO had my back. I had written documentation showing his support. Then the rug was pulled out from under me. I had to fight to get unemployment. I learned that the fact I had documentation proving my points helped somewhat in my case. I hired a lawyer and it was a prolonged process. In the end I got compensation including a settlement but it wasn’t equitable in relation to the time given to the company. The fact that “At Will” employment is the standard is just wrong.

@marlan5470

There are always layoffs. The thing is to navigate the tides. When I was younger, precarious work was already a thing, with contracted labor and all that, whether in my country of origin or the US or elsewhere. I've always seen the signs of lay-offs a mile away. Thank you for your videos.

@Kremppie2008

I listened to my grandmother’s stories of hard times, and indeed they were. She was born in 1909. The tough and smart will make it through to tell the stories.

@jf5336

Great advice, especially all of the financial parts. I've been laid off three times over my 40 year engineering career. After the last layoff in 2017, I went back to school for a Master's degree that was intended for me to change careers and...didn't work out. So, at 64,I started looking for an engineering position. To my surprise,I got one. It lasted a bit over a year because it turned out to have been not what was promised. So, now, on the cusp of 70, I no longer bother looking seriously for a corporate job. My experience is worth nothing to companies...but helps as I set up my start-up. Pay attention to this woman---she speaks the truth!

@LovelyJordy

I got a raise on Friday. I'm always paranoid because I have been laid off before.. I have an interview tomorrow for a second job as I'm on my 100k jouney. Always be looking, save money, keep your skills fresh. Live BELOW YOUR MEANS (team no car note nor credit card debt)...Good luck to you all ❤. Thisbis great advice. Im going to do the consulting!

@abetterwayblueprint225

It's automation, debt based economy, private equity acquisitions gutting sound companies in secret, such a sad indictment on a severely sick society.... thank you for your upbeat & thorough videos on such a raw topic!

@cindyjordan2539

As a 35 year desk warrior in the tech industry I have been laid off more times than I can remember and yet I've never been involuntarily out of work for more than a week. Reading the signs and starting your networking ahead of the layoff is the key to staying employed today. I can tell you that every single word she's saying here is 100% accurate. Have 6 months of living expenses in the bank at all times so you have the breathing room to have choices. Then you can approach our job search in a relaxed manner than translates in interviews. Believe me, you want to make a friend in HR. You want to keep your ear to the ground and pay attention to the politics. Then you'll always be ahead of the game.

@alaina2768

Excellent video. I see so many videos on here of people getting laid off. Just feels like there’s not gonna be enough jobs to go around. Scary times.

@MattJoyceUK

Outstanding video! Everyone in employment needs to watch this, it’s all about expecting the best but preparing for the worst. Thank you 😊

@kbutler7632

I lost my job in 2011. If it wasn't for VA check, I was able to pay my rent and utilities and buy some food. I was blessed.
