I was able to use the student discount pricing. I got a M4 with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. This was my first brand new computer purchase since 2008. I’ve been buying used Macs for years. I fully expect this Mac Mini to last me 10 years.

@GalicianBandit

I bought the base model with 512 gb internal storage and then bought a dock and put a 1tb ssd, and I am running logic with countless vst instruments and it goes like a dream, 0 latency . Before I was running an old intel I Mac and the difference is mind blowing, so happy!

@Spidey-Earth-616

I was still using my base 2012 Mac Mini up until last week. Did have to upgrade to an external ssd a few years ago to run MacOs off of it to keep it going. Didn’t need to upgrade but decided after 13 years it was time. Got a base Mac Mini M4.

@markslima1557

Super happy with my M4 Mac Mini with 24GB and 512 internal storage. Best computer I've ever owned, just delightful and speedy.

@javiergiangiacomo9578

Drawing comics full time with the 16/256 base model here, I got it since november and I can`t be more satisfied with my Mac mini.

@REAPERMania

I'll take it one step further. I upgraded to the M4 Mac Mini about 6 months ago from the M1 Mac Mini and I also made a mistake. Yes. This machine is great. And I was able to clean out all the crap and start over with a brand new machine. But the difference in speed is barely noticeable. If at all. Still love the new one but I can't in good conscience say this was a needed upgrade. I am a record producer and a youtuber making music and editing videos on it and the M1 Mac Mini is still more than capable. But always get the 512GB storage. 256GB is just too small.

@TravellingTechie

DOF = Degrees of Freedom (I think that's what they meant)
6 degrees of freedom would mean an object in 3 dimensional space being able to move up, down, side-to-side and then also being able to rotate about those axes too, roll, pitch and yaw.
That is (from what I recall) computationally very task heavy when you are trying to work out the effect of moving an object and how it affects airflow. An example I can think of is a wing on an aircraft and how it flexes and bends in turbulence. Then trying to model how that then affects airflow and how the onboard fly-by-wire computers can monitor the flexing, twisting and bending (6 DOF) and maybe reduce the severity by putting in automatic controls to reduce fatigue on the wing structure, but also make it more comfortable for passengers in the cabin.

@KiraHerdman

I use my Mac for 3 things, blogging, editing a news radio show and streaming Wuthering Waves to Twitch. The base M4 Mac mini works fine for all those tasks. I won’t be upgrading it for years now. Very happy with it, in fact it’s the best computer I’ve ever owned.

@markeggert9045

I'm still rocking my M1 Mac Mini. It still ROCKS.

@scooterinvegas1

Apple's marketing team knows what they're doing with that base model price coupled with its amazing performance to price ratio. Three weeks ago I had zero Apple products. Today, desktop, laptop and phone are all Apple. The Apple mini is a gateway drug and they know it.

@Solkre82

This is my first mac in over a decade. I have the base model, and my dock + 2TB comes today. Loving it so far, WFH with it the first time this week.

Also using a 2.5Gb Ethernet USB-C adapter that's been solid.

@skepticalmechanic

bought the cheap base model... had regrets and took it back and got the 512ssd and 24 meg ram... very happy I did... and got the student discount...

@lgude

I bought the Pro and am really glad I did after several months. It’s still cheap compared to the Studio. 24GB is enough for me. 1TB SSD because of 3 dead external SSDS. I’m happy that I have the performance headroom. But you are probably right that I don’t need this level, but I remember when I thought a 386 was all I’d ever need and spent more on one back in the day than I spent on this M4. I’m an old man, this is my red Ferrari.😉

@goldmarkg

I have AN MSEE from MIT and my first home computer was a Mac in 1985 when they first came out. I have had multiple Macs since and ran my business with them. Without a doubt, the base model M4 Mac Mini (which I now use for all my computer needs) is the best bang for the buck of all of them! Add an external drive if you need extra storage and 95% of users will be very happy.

@jim-t4q

There's only one more revolution Apple can pull. Make the iPhone work in a dock as a full desktop. I've been wanting this for 10 years.

@1975Stevo

i was that person just before buying my M4 Mac Mini. Watching videos on stress testing, telling myself i like you play around with video editing, music production etc etc and thinking i need the Mac Mini Pro, or at least base model and loads more ram than the std. The reality is, i went with the base model as enough people were saying the same thing, and they were right. 80% of the time im just on websites like this or occasionally do some video editing and dont really care if it takes an extra 40 seconds to render a video. Glad i went with the base model. I did get drawn into external hardrive and went with the express 1M2 but have barely even used that. I've been watching your videos for a while and had a feeling you might of been saying this about the Mac Mini Pro. Great content as always and love your channel.

@IcemanTheDj

In 2014 I bought my last PC. A 4GHz quad core with 16GB RAM with a 700-800W power supply. The best I've ever had! In 2021 it was time to upgrade and I knew that Intel Macs were no longer what they once were (when they were good I couldn't afford to buy them), but somehow I found out that they had switched to other processors and I did an intense research for about a week, so I decided to buy a MacBook Air M1 base model. My first Mac! I was speechless with amazement when I saw what it could do next to my old PC at about 20 times less power consumption, a much more smaller space occupied, and in total silence! In 2024 I bought the Mac Mini M4 to take up even less space on my desk (the MacBook do something else now anyway). And since I was still doing very well with the MacBook Air M1, I didn't consider it necessary to get more than the base model for the Mac Mini! 🤭 I'm very happy with the choice I made! BTW, nice video!

@lobovilches1

I bought the base version of the Mac mini m4 and it's crazy.

I have Chrome open with over 30 tabs, music playing in the background, several programs open, remote servers, virtualized machines, I open DaVinci Resolve and edit 4K videos, I check the CPU load and it's barely at 10%.... The performance of this machine is absolutely incredible. I only have 35% of the total disk space occupied. If I want to expand it via Thunderbolt in the future, for 99% of users, you won't need a more powerful machine; the base model is very powerful.

@rodsmyth

I recently upgraded from a 2015 intel iMac to the M4 Mac mini - a huge jump in power. I configured the mini with 24 GB of memory and 512 GB of internal storage and, like you, I went for the 10 mb/s ethernet upgrade as well. I did consider also going for 1024 gb of internal storage on the basis that for the same additional price of going from 256 GB to 512 GB I could go from 512 GB to 1024 GB. I am still using the old iMac as my Raspberry Pi development system. The iMac has lasted me for 9 years and is still useful. The Mac mini I expect will last me the rest of my life as I turn 77 this year. To give an historical perspective I purchased a 40 MB removable pack disk drive for my employer in 1974 for $38,000 Australian dollars. In the same month I purchased, for myself, a 3 bedroom town house for exactly the same amount of money -38,000 Australian dollars. Apple will have to work very hard to come up with reasons for their customers to keep them needing to purchase new more powerful Macs as fast as they are developing them.
