Can I just say how much I love you! I always thought I was failing and horrible at organizing. My husband, bless his heart, has tried to help me over the 23 years we’ve been married but we both end up frustrated. I have attempted countless times to try to organize our home, I think we have way too much crap, he doesn’t want to declutter because we spent money on it and worked hard at our jobs to provide and pay for the stuff. I have told him if we had less stuff our home would function and look better. I wonder what organization style he is. And can there ever be a solution to our messy home?!
Ok so I’m very much a ladybug. No lids for me. Needs to be easy to put away. And macro categories work great like in the kitchen. But there are areas where I like to see things clearly in the basket when I look, especially in the bathroom, where I want to be able to get ready quick so I have to find it quick and be able to put it away quick out of sight. So I have little open containers inside the open baskets with the q-tips, brushes, ponytails, etc. in a way I can see everything. Which clutterbug fits that? Ladybug and cricket or bee seem like opposites. Butterfly? Do butterflies like some detail but still easy?
What are you using for your labels? I've seen you cut out labels in your videos and hot glue them on... Is it just paper? I love how cute they are but I feel like they would get ruined.
When I started decluttering I thought for sure I am a Ladybug. But as I started decreasing the amount of stuff, I wanted to more specifically organize in the containers. Ex, pens, pencils, markers separated, and my filing systems became more detailed also. That led me to think I'm more of a Cricket. In the butterfly video you said most kids were butterflys and could change as they get older. Do you find adults that sometimes change their clutterbug style over time or would you consider them to just have traits from more than one clutterbug?
I am a mixture of a Lady bug and Cricket. I think for starters I will just default to Lady Bug and fine tune at a later date if I see fit. Would this be the better way to start?
I am between ladybug and cricket style. I haven't quite figured out what works where for me. I am least of all styles a bee. I need easy storage with some detail in certain categories, some of which may need sub-dividing while others don't.
I just started watching your videos. I am a ladybug, but struggle with letting things go. Especially books and kitchen items. What is the best way to "trick" your mind into donating them or getting rid of them without feeling bad (I have too much)?
Is it possible to be a different organizing style for different parts of our home? I’m more detailed in some areas and less in others 🤷🏻♀️
This works great for pantries and closets. I am still struggling with Christmas decor and photo albums etc. where you only use them once a year or so and closed storage makes better sense. What do you do for that type of storage?
As a ladybug (with a way too small home and a totally cluttered basement) I love this series! Something I don’t quite get is the beginning of the car wash story (which is absolutely hilarious!): where are the people, who show you where to drive to get on the track? I have yet to find a car wash without them.
4:31 The concept of "Which do you prioritize: finding it quickly, or putting it away quickly?" is a game-changer. It's a key thing to consider, regardless of organizing style. In my case, it's better to toss something in a bin, basket, or hanging door organizer pouch and dig it out later, than to make the time to micromanage the specific spot it needs to go. (Hello, ADHD!) For other people, the reverse may be true. There's no right or wrong answer, but if you're going to organize, you definitely need to know YOUR answer to that question.
I think I’m a ladybug 🐞 I Also fly by the seat of my pants. I’ve been reading the clutter bug connection book. Thanks Cass. I’ve gone the cube route I got lots of 12 by 12 cube bins and cubicle like storage. This explains why planners and complicated categories didn’t work. Only thing is I am a medical person and I am rather obsessed with categorizing medical supplies and medications into micro categories WITHIN my basket bins. But that’s just me. Cheers everyone! Let’s all get organized for a happy 2025! 😊🌈🌸
Hey! I’m having trouble with simplifying my supplements! Can you please do a video on that? I have too many to toss and go with the “all in one” subscription type…and the reason I have so many is because I FORGET to take them so often 🤦🏻♀️. I keep mine in a bin in the cabinet and it’s just not working. Halp 😩
I just found your a few months ago. I'm actually not a clutterbug. But I love all your cleaning & organizing vids & now I'm following you. I absolutely love your your personality, your humor & your wit! Please, for the love of all things holy, don't stop doing what you do, exactly the way you are doing it because you are truly an inspiration!
I’m a Ladybug that’s a basket case! Hehe! I’m pretty organized and clean by nature but after getting married and having kids….its been so hard to maintain. We had some major hot spots that just didn’t get setup properly when we moved in our new home 4 yrs almost to date and it was my goal in 2024 that I wanted my home to run more efficiently and create better systems. I almost done with goal and the push is revamp my home management and create a meal/menu binder. Thank you for all your help!
I‘m a ladybug in most of the spaces in my home. With two kids most of it has to be easy to put away. But in some places I‘m a cricket. Like the medicine has to be neat and tidy so I have easy access and don’t have do dig for things. Also the bathroom cabinets need a detailed organization and lots of containers with lots of categories. I also learned that everything needs a place and everyone needs to no that place. So even if someone left something out everyone knows where it belongs and it could be put back very easily. I‘m still organizing a lot and trying to figure out what is working for our family. Sometimes it takes some time but it’s getting better 😊
Could we get a video on how to make compromises between all the organization styles? For families who may have opposite preferences? (Obviously default the style of bedrooms and personal space to the individuals style, but what about shared and common areas? Especially Ladybug vs Butterfly’s visual preference and Macros vs Micros? I’d presume who uses the space more would have the most influence on it but surely there are ways that’s comfortable for multiple types? I try to create spaces for temporary macro bins to be disbursed later based on who’s ever preference but they all end up over flowing before anything is done to them. (I have a bin for each person so if something is laying out of place it gets put in the relevant persons bin but then the bin is only checked if someone is missing something.) There will soon be a bin for non specific or community clutter but idk how to make this work. Living with multiple adults who all have different types and schedules. (5 adults one house. Lol.) I know I’m the only one who handles micro organization so I tend to default to macro solutions for everything but will micro organize from the macro bins as time allows. (So long as all silverware gets to the same drawer that’s good, I’ll separate them by spoon/fork if needed. Or so long as all food goes into the large pantry category(snack area/baking area/sweets area/pasta,grain,etc area) I’ll go back and arrange by dates/types/relevancy to each other later myself.
Omg idk if my mom is a ladybug or a cricket. I have been trying to crack her code since I found you 6 months to a year ago...She is a perfectionist who never leaves things out. And she doesn't mind lids. She stacks things without it being a big problem. And she doesn't micro categorize. But she doesn't macro categorize. Nothing is labeled. And even with containers concealed inside drawers cabinets etc they are clear, sometimes with opaque lids. But out in the open, they are usually opaque containers...
Hi Cass. I am also a ladybug. I’ve navigated every area of my home in this organizing style except my papers. How does one navigate paper clutter as a ladybug? Dumping everything in one bin is so overwhelming later when it comes time to find it later. But again a filing system is too complicated. I just start piling the paper on top of the portable hanging file organizer 🤦🏼♀️
