Display companies honestly need to follow Apple's practice of offering an option for a matte coating version or just standard glossy
So glad I bought this. It's AMAZING.
Absolutely stellar monitor! Matte finish hasn’t bother me nearly as much as I thought . Neither does the curve . I’ll never go flat again . Matte is about 90 percent to glossy color punch to me . I owned a C4 which I had mounted on top of the 5k2k couldn’t spot a difference majority of the time . Dark lit environment and calibrated . Glossy is better but if you ask me not even close to a deal breaker
LG's own marketing showing glossy being superior makes mat look stupid on their best monitors. LG has amazing glossy screens on their TVs
I have the monitor in hand, and I can confirm that the matte coating is aggressive. I’ll be returning back to best buy if anyone wants an open box.
For everyone considering. Dont give into the FOMO. I upgraded from 1440p IPs to 4k oled. And while it’s good and very impressive for the first few weeks. It will become the same normal. And games will be just as fun as before. So only spend the money if your really plan on upgrading anyway.
How is it for productivity tasks?
I'm getting it, matte coating isn't a dealbreaker for me it still looks great. Sucks they did UHBR 13.5 but it's lossless anyways. Tariffs are going to drive the price through the roof once they run out of in US stock...
Best monitor out right now, love mine
1:25 doing WHAT??!!!
For anyone interested in this monitor, it’s friggin gorgeous, don’t listen to the poor angry trolls who can’t afford one. It’s crazy that we have these specs, at pricing i still find reasonable. Look how far we’ve come in just 5 -10 years with monitors. Some people are just angry about nothing.
Thank you specifically for the clarity & coating section. I currently have the Alienware AW3423DW: a QD-OLED with the color fringing issues. My next upgrade needs to be full glossy with no color fringing. The wait continues.
How was this connected for you to run it? Was it connected to DP 2.1 at 10 bit color at 5K2K 165hz? I think the issue most people are reporting is that with the limited bandwidth at 50Gbps this monitor physically cannot run at max settings which would require 65Gbps i.e. full DP 2.1. It’d be interesting to know how you were running it.
Mine arrives Thursday. Super excited! Cant wait! Im coming from a 27 inch 1080p. I also have a 9070xt so i hope its fast enough to push it. 🙏
Great review like your honesty hope the 39 makes the text clarity even better
There’s really nothing like this monitor — it’s top-tier. I’m coming from a 49" Samsung VA, and this one just feels premium in every way. The curvature is spot on — much better than the 1000R on my old 49". The height is finally right; I no longer feel like it is short all the time. The width is super comfortable too — I can take in all the details without straining. The colors? Absolutely stunning. I’ll leave the deep technical stuff to the experts. I’m just an everyday gamer, and I just started playing Expedition 33 on it — I can literally see the pores on the heroes’ faces. It’s worth every cent!
How does this compare with a C5 42 inch monitor from a display perspective?
For only $500 more the 55 G5 is a no brainer if you’re ok with wall mounting to get some viewing distance as a monitor.
LG OLED C4 42" is $800-$900 depending on sales. If you want a GLOSSY screen and want large format, Its the best bang for the buck hands down. I've had one for just under a year as my main PC work and gaming display and with a service remote to unlock features and brightness, its absolutely killer for less than half the price.
