"Lal Singh Chadda" was actually a very good movie, he should not beat himself to it. Reason it did not work because it was copied from a very iconic movie watched by millions of his fans and they ended up comparing it to the original.

Laal Singh was the first movie which i watched after covid, first film on theater in Canada. Hall was half full and it seemed majority of us liked. Though Forest Gump is one of my fav films still I enjoyed, liked how they played with Kareena's character. But yes Aamir's acting wasn't great. He came to his elements only in the last 1 hr.. Anyway looking forward to Sitarae Zameen Par (Less said about Thugs is better)

I mean, the biggest issue with laal singh chaddha was that, in the USA with the Vietman war, there weren't enough soldiers so they had to draft some mentally disabled, which was fine in its own right. India has never experienced such a problem. We've fortunately always had enough aspirants to join the military forces so the whole narrative never made sense.
