Just an FYI to my fellow Europeans. It is pretty common to have a 2-page resume (CV) in Europe. And I have been to several talks and coffee chats with hiring managers asking why people don't seem to be using the 2 pages they have allocated for their CV. Of course don't waste the space on irrelevant things, so if you have 1 page worth of content, it's 1 page. But things like studying abroad, I've personally only gotten positive feedback for including. Language, such as english, spanish etc. is not really that relevant in my opinion, unless the job listing explicitly says so in my opinion.
I honestly just came across your video randomly and I started to watch them.... I am not a software engineer, I am in the mechanical field... I appreciate the drive you have for your work/Job and your problem solving skills..... I enjoy your videos π hope to discover and rediscover.
Happy b-day! Canβt wait to see more of your planned trips! I love all the severance lines along the vlog!
your editing skills are amazing, love to watch your videos! A hug from Brazil
Very interesting video. I recall watching "Day in the life of a software engineer" a few years back when it was still cool and trendy and I was jealous to see people being allowed to work on their laptop from anywhere. I was a call center representative back then. Now I'm a back office employee doing administrative tasks all day. My role is mostly to do financial transactions in our transactional system and analyze claims. I do not face the client directly therefore I can work from a coffee shop or from anywhere. Had it not been for the fact that I am exempted from the hybrid on site/remote policy, I couldn't live outside of the region of Montreal because my office is downtown Montreal. But during Covid I got the green light to move far away and now I have an exemption that basically allows me be a full remote worker. This is amazing. I hope that you're also allowed to work remotely from time to time. By the way, I stayed 1 month in Tokyo in October of last year and it was a truly amazing experience. I understood from your video that you are Japanese and so I'm assuming that you speak Japanese and you have family there. I'm sure that you will enjoy it even more than me! Japan became my favorite travel destination of all the places that I've been to in the past 3 years.
I definitely recommend taking notes of what you're working on, pain points, work flow suggestions, things you'd like to work on and anything else you can think of to take to your 1:1s. That is the time you get for your manager to hear you and for you to understand expectations so it is your responsibility to make it valuable. I bet your manager has some notes they're looking at to bring to you. I would recommend this for every meeting. Even if you don't get the opportunity to speak I would still recommend taking some topics and taking notes during so you can contribute more and more as your career progresses.
Love these videos, I'll be joining as an intern in vancouver over the summer and find it super cool getting a glimpse into what the day to day is like, as well as the things u do to balance life outside of work. Also getting to say hi to the other people in office would be cool too, might make it less intimidating for me to say hi when I have the chance haha Huge fan of all the office and severance references throughout the video btw πΌ
Iβm moving to Van to join Amazon soon! Nervous but so excited to live in such a beautiful city. These vids have helped a lot with what to expect as a new grad
