He never lied about his age. His birthday was like two days after the cut off date for the 2003 NHL Draft. The Florida Panthers tried a couple times to draft him in 03, including saying that he’d be eligible if it weren’t for leap days. Same thing with Matthews, except that no one tried to draft him in 2015.
