Last year, I rode 2000 miles on my fixed gear bike and the same amount on my road bike, I can say that fixie is so much fun!!
Literally any bike can do anything if you try hard enough for city and asphalt riding. I commute on a unicycle everywhere and it replaced my hybrid because it's such fun. All bikes have their own pros and cons but it's what makes those unique ride qualities so entertaining.
Not to be that guy, but I just did 2 days in a row riding 50 miles fixed and have 0 complaints I love that bike All bikes are a good time
I used to ride a motorcycle without a starter, front brake, mirrors, or turn signals. It was really fun. I imagine riding a brakeless fix gear is a similar thrill
The Tour de France was originally raced on fixed gear bikes.
Great video. I built a single speed last fall and got 600+ kilometres on it before winter. Love the simplicity, not full blown fixie but I'm old and my knees just wouldn't hold up. I normally ride 80s road bikes but in 2022 I'll be on the single speed for the majority of my rides.
Fixed and SS are simple, reliable and fun! That waterfront spot with the moose is awesome.
Dont know if anyone has said this recently, but your choice of background music is great.
Of course you can. Fixed gear lifer here. 52x16 and eat roadies for breakfast all day everyday here in Nottingham.
Not to mention that if you pick a flip-flop rear hub you can have 2 gears or a singlespeed/fixed gear combo. Which is a great choice in my opinion.
When I started riding on the road, I only had my Colossi track bike. Did 5-8h a week on this thing. Then I got Dolan Pre Cursa. Did my first 100km ride on it. Trained my sprints, did strava segments etc. Raced my first fixie crit, also went to the velodrome. And it was my only bike, so I rode it to work every day, even in winter. Later I got different track bikes and even did group rides with them. Finding good gear ratio helps. Also you can carry bottle in your jersey pockets or can attach bottle cage with hose clamps
i used to ride a trek 5200 carbon road bike but i snapped it on the roads doing food delivery. I switched to a track bike to be like the cool guys and when it rained i took my front brake off. I now ride brakeless and skid around looking like a g
The moose reminded me of a video I saw where a fixed gear rider crashed badly hitting a deer because he/she couldn't slow down in time without a front brake. Why do brakeless track bikes look so damn cool... Tragic! Be safe!
I only ride fixed. Its fun and makes you climb hills better. Cheers Spindatt!!!
funny I asked myself this same question yesterday. how timely!
I would love to see you learn some tricks on the Vigorelli like trackstand, riding backwards (straight as well as in circles) or even Fish & Chips or a Keo. Also on the note of buying a fixed gear bike as a budget thing ... They're incredibly fun and so simple. You can try out many things because everything is so easy to swap out. Feeling like riding a wide riser instead of the drop bars? No problem! Swap them within a few minutes! The swapability also makes these machines really great for uprades. Anyway, love the videos!
Love riding my Surly Steamroller. Possibly my fav bike. It’s just a great connection riding fixed that you don’t get with geared bikes
This may be my favorite video of yours yet.
My friend was an urban fixed gear rider for several years before he got a geared cyclocross bike. It totally opened up new possibilities for him in terms of distance, elevation gain, road surface (or lack thereof), and riding style (more chill and endurance, less fast and aggressive).
