I'm gonna say you can still come to Korea even if you don't know all of these rules. A lot of these only apply if you're actually trying to be friends with Koreans. I'd say the key points when visiting as a tourist are: 1. Some plumbing gets clogged easily, look for a sign in the stall that tells you what to do with your toilet paper. 2. Don't wait for a check, get up to pay at the counter when you're done with your meal. 3. You may have heard that theft in Korea is low, and that you can leave your things unattended, but bicycles are the exception, they get stolen a lot. Though I still wouldn't leave all my things unattended for long. Edit: Regarding taking off shoes indoors, Jina is mostly referring to homes. Most places you visit as a tourist will not require you to take off your shoes inside. You can keep your shoes on at the store, or a restaurant, or a museum. The exception is that some restaurants have traditional floor seating, and some small museums might require you to take off your shoes. For example, I recently visited two museums that were converted from Japanese-style homes. Generally if there's no place to put your shoes when you enter a building you keep them on.
yall be stealing umbrellas too. dont act like you dont. I got 3 umbrellas stolen from me while I was there, no cap
I really don't appreciate how she makes Korean culture sound so intimidating. Guys, it’s not nearly as rigid a society as she makes it seem. Girl just chill.
Do greet the elders on the street in smaller neighborhoods though, they love it and always smile so much. It really depends on the situation though.
Il rebooking my flight to Thailand . Yeahhhhh😊
I’ve been in Korea since 2008. Many public bathrooms now have signs “Put your toilet paper in the toilet”. Quite frankly, seeing a bin with shit-stained toilet paper is absolutely disgusting (and something you’d see in a developing nation). Time for an update, Jina.
저는 한국에 살고 있어요. 비록 반은 한국인이지만 한국어를 정말 잘 할 수 있어요! 그래도 나 자신은 몰랐기 때문에 이 비디오를 시청해 주셔서 감사합니다. 😊
Talking to strangers is my favorite thing 😭
Yes I knew but thanks for the refresher it’s good to be reminded. So we don’t make mistakes
First two do not apply in all cases. For example if you dont approach koreans you will have a hard time making friends here. ( use the foreigner card thats why it exist!!!) Second some erdely people will find weird that you follow that korean tradition as foregneir so its really situational.
Meeh I think Koreans, at least in Seoul, do not expect tourists to know a that stuff from before and I never felt judged when making small mistakes. Instead, I felt that they were willing to explain their culture and etiquette without stressing me at all! If you at least try not to be annoying in public and respect some obvious rules, at least as a tourist, Koreans reciprocate the respect and politeness 200%
I’m American and we always took our shoes off in my house. I have noticed most do, especially when they have carpets. The one thing that drives me crazy is when maintenance comes and they walk around with their big nasty boots. I try to ask them to wear disposable shoe covers so they don’t have to take them off but they have a really bad attitude about it. I think it’s rude because I spend a lot of time keeping my floors clean and polished. I would be so embarrassed if I went to someone’s house and acted that way.
Great tips. I feel like the "Do's" in korea seems a great combo with this video. For example, bring a korean friend with you.
You won’t steal phones on the table by itself while the owner uses the restroom but you’ll steal bikes lol.
Jina, you should be ambassador for Korean Culture ❤🎉
“Don’t pour your own drink” POV:you live by yourself Dang I’m thirsty, why don’t I get some water……OH WAIT I CAN’T PUOR MY DRINK I’LL ASK THE NEIGHBOR 😮😮😮
Slicky boys in Korea could steal a radio so fast, the music would still be there.
Don't worry about her saying. We love foreigners and we will understand. Just enjoy your trip.
You are saying I should not come korea.yes
