Such an encouraging video, at the end of the day these Oxford students are just like the rest of us being so grateful and trying to figure out their future
Currently in the process of going through my A-level exams, this video is another push of motivation, can’t wait to secure that conditional offer. Thank you for the interviews!
I was at Oxford, Queen's College, reading music, from 94-97. I was surprised to get in, because I don't consider myself that intelligent. I met lots of amazing people there, who were far better at what they did than me. Maybe I had to make up for this by working twice as hard and being extra disciplined. Things have probably changed quite a bit since my time, but from my experience, I can tell those who are wondering if Oxford is for them, what life as a student there was like for me. I remember getting on my bike at around 7:00 every morning to practise the piano for an hour before the faculty library opened. Then I would spend an hour reading for the week's essay before my first lecture at 9:00. I would stay at the faculty until lunch, practising and at lessons. Often I wouldn't even go to the college for lunch, partly to save money and partly to save time. I would often just eat an apple and some nuts and go straight to the Bodleian reading room. I would spend every afternoon there, researching for my week's essay. I would go back to college for second sitting at 7:10, and then most weekday evenings would be spent in my room, working on whatever was most urgent, or I would go back out to the practice rooms and get in another hour or two of piano practice before bed. Of course, I went to some events: concerts, prayer meetings, chocolate and port events for this or that excuse, etc. However, Monday to Fridays were completely occupied with my studies. I spent around 14 hours a day studying, and I ALWAYS felt like I was slacking. On Saturdays I would allow myself to be sociable in the afternoon/evening, and on Sundays I would go to church and rest. There were probably other students who took it easier than me, but that was simply my experience. I hope this is useful for someone. If there is anyone who was at Oxford more recently, I would be interested to know how things have changed, and what a difference the internet has made. When I was there, email was little more than a way to meet up with friends in the evening. I never even considered it might be useful for my studies. Also, the fact that everything was on paper meant that we had to be physically in the libraries in order to read anything. Maybe this has diminished Oxford's academic advantage, now that information is so readily available to everyone online.
I really like the last topic, whether they need to be a genius or not. They know where they're from and what they're studying. Having passion drives them to success in the end! Thank you for making this video!
The video really changed my perspective about Oxford University, at first I thought it is almost impossible to get there unless you are a genius, but NO IT IS NOT LIKE THAT. I am really enthusiastic to study there, I am currently preparing myself for my IGCSE and then A-level program. Can you share some tips on how to prepare myself from this stage to get into Oxford?
omg thank you so much for these realistic expectations 😭 really well made video THANK YOU! :D
it's literally my dream to study in oxford university one day thanks for the video 🥰
This video was really nice! I'm currently preparing for my A-levels and planning to apply to Oxford. I hope I can get in! I'm aiming for the Engineering Science program, and I'd really love to hear from students who got into this program about how they did it. If possible, please include tips specific to programs like Engineering, as well as advice on the Oxford interview process, in your upcoming application advice video. It would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!
This video quality is amazing, I was shocked when I saw 200 subs! Keep it up, this video was absolutely amazing!
loved this video!! i am in y9 currently and i really want to get into oxford uni when it’s time! ❤
You can do it. I was accepted at Oxford. Total shock.
It depends on the course you apply to. Medicine is so hard to get into for example whereas other courses are less competitive
This video got recommended to me on my feed and I am glad I watched it. Lots of love from India ❤
0:40 damn man he is from my very same city !
In regard to undergraduate degrees: Oxford is collegiate, so getting in is through application and admission to a college. Research and choose your college carefully, they are not all the same, varying widely in size, atmosphere, background profile of students and expertise of tutors between subjects. Admissions tutors typically have a lot of academically able and interesting people to sift through, all well capable of doing well. Who they choose oftentimes comes down to which applicants they think they would 'get on with' well as tutors. That's a difficult thing for an applicant to engineer, so luck comes into it. But, however confident you are in your abilities, a whiff of over-cockiness or arrogance in interview will likely scupper your chances. DON'T BS, tutors have probably heard it all before and won't be fooled. Listening and responding to interview questions thoughtfully is far more appealing than someone blowing their own trumpet. Productive and enjoyable tutorials are based on dialogue and rapport, not students showing off. (Pembroke College Graduate)
Wonderful video and very recent, I was in Oxford last weekend and the Radcliffe Camera looks a total mess. You definitely do not need to be a genius to get into Oxford but you do need to have that passion for your subject and all the people that you interviewed clearly showed that.
I went on a couple of school trips to Oxford in year 11 and 12, specifically Mansfield College and it didn't make me feel like I wanted to go there. I'm sure it's great and all but it seems to me like it's only appeal above other top universities is it's name. Anyway great video and very insightful. I always assumed everyone there was a genius 😂
LOVED THE VIDEO!!! Thanks Alina! 💗🌻 I am just starting my A Levels and I really want to study physics there!🥹
I think there might be more relaxed rules for acceptance for international students due to the fact they pay significantly more per year compared to domestic students for participating in exactly the same programs - one international student pays 2-3 x more per year in fees.
