Wow! As a graphic designer for nearly 30 years this is probably the best I've heard colours explained. I love your delivery. You clearly know when to pose questions and to put moments of rest in your video editing (which makes you better than 95% of people on this platform). Love that sardines image, it kind of looks like art for an old fashioned matchbox cover.

@Mikdog

Great, thanks! As a red/green colourblind artist who's been working for 20+ years, I always admire people who have a solid grasp of colour theory and practice. Really like your work!

@bethaapple2102

1:08 Monochromatic (single color - saturated-desaturated-light-dark)
1:48 Analogous (next in each other)
2:06 Complementary (opposite each other-contrast each other-your art will pop)
2:31 Split Complementary
2:42 Tetradic (two sets of Complementary colors)
3:19 75%-25% rule
4:00 60%-30&-10% rule (common in graphic design)
4:48 foolproof fav colors (look at background or most color used before add your fav colors)

Hope this helps

@Kristina-gz2wu

I'm not an artist but I love to color and I'm always envious of other people's coloring pages because they are good at combining colors. So thank you for this I am now going to try it.

@jamescombridgeart

This and other ratios are just as effective in all other areas of design! Shape, detail distribution, rest vs detail, etc. once you see it you cant unsee it!

@Soarin_Altiss

I just want to say thank you for using the music analogy. I'm a composer who has been recently trying to apply drawing and painting techniques to my music. I'm trying to find color theory videos because I believe that what can be applied to color can be applied to harmony to some degree, so your intro was a nice surprise for me.

@invisiblue3212

Ma'am...I wish I could hug you rn. Even though I wouldnt because I have an aversion to being touched by strangersšŸ˜‚, but the sentiment stands. You have really helped me over one of my biggest art hurdles, and i can't thank you enough ā¤ im so excited to apply these techniques to my fiber art, as well!! You've made this old lady gleeful😊

@missmj.missmj

I can't stop thinking about how you applied the color theory to your shot/interior design and even hair! ;) lovely

@melanierichards

Agreed with the other commenters, you’ve done an unusually effective job at showing and explaining these concepts. The 60/30/10 guidance is a new one for me!

@hermit0345

I have been looking for tips for using line art that’s lighter than the colors around it for so long with no luck. This guide gave me exactly what I needed and more!!
Thank you so much for this video!

@phoebebaker1575

I love that sardine print so much! I like the balance of the teal-grey fish at the bottom. The colors really pop.

@cocoakusubuu7100

i make a living at art, i think that limiting your palette forces you to get good at the basic and leads to new doors of innovation because you have to adapt to make it work. Stretch those creativity muscles. Learn the rules so you know how to break them more effectively.

@jadeheadphones

As a musician, thank you so much my using this analogy to explain the same concept in art. I found more of a connection.

I know this theory but it's not clicked fully in my brain and i just keep getting overwhelmed with colours and getting the correct hue and saturation to compliment each other then I've also been struggling with the rbg vs cmyk fight and to see correct colours.

I've been trying to isolate colour to the base forms but i always felt like i was missing some information that could fully move all the gears of this concept and you explained it so well so i can understand it.

Also, on a sode note, being on the neurodivergent spectrum and going through the frustrations of skill regression too, i really appreciate tutorials like this as it reforms my connections and i don't feel as blocked with the things I'm trying to accomplish.

ā¤ Thank you 😊🌻

@kathleen4230

I love how you apply the same rules in your video, your matching hair is perfect. ā¤ Thanks!

@BrushFun

hands down this is the best color theory video for a self learner like me

@Blissfully_Me

Hey Brooke! ā¤ I just have to shout out how amazing this course is! My art has improved beyond what I ever imagined I could do!! She is THE best teacher, and I’m so thankful I found her!

@Bamdeidz

Best youtube video about color! Complete and concise

@nevermorrowarts

That was so incredibly helpful, thank you! I don’t have much formal art training and this really helped me understand so much more about colour. I’m off to practice now šŸŽØ

@kotadonaldson3031

This was helpful to also apply to fashion and outfits
