Rebekah nailed it. It dovetails into Surv.Spec suggestion for 26 days being an issue. To add a point of my own: old-school Survivor was designed to engineer conflict. From grueling physical challenges to 'know your tribe' quizzes, production actively stirred the pot. Now, the game has leaned away from that both in casting and in production. Like Lord of the Flies, real conflict comes from survival stress, scarcity, hierarchy, and ego. But today's game blunts those edges: 26 v 39, abundant food in Fiji, and moments like players helping each other at Final 4. It's no surprise the show feels flatter. I appreciate your channel for keeping it real and not sugarcoating this issue to avoid upsetting CBS. Keep it up.
These new seasons are such a slog. The castaways look “different”, but all think, play, and talk the same. The challenges are always some sort of race that leads to a puzzle. The rewards are boring. There is too much of an emphasis placed on the advantages.
1) show must be 39 days 2) new locations (I mean Im from Costa Rica, I cannot believe survivor has not a season in this country (what an outrage)) 3) more villian edits or villain players
Phil's spot on, 26 days isn't enough time for the game to breathe and let people think or talk about things properly, that dead day in between on a 39 day season was what made and broke relationships no one ever would've seen forming because they had all that extra time to just LIVE and TALK and BE which will inherently form bonds that turn into STRATEGIZING and BLINDSIDES and GAMEPLAY, you'd think the production team that made 40 seasons like this would understand all that... Edit: Rebekah equally as spot on about this 😂👏
I like how on survivor AU they get to spill a lil tea the day after someone’s torch gets snuffed with the other tribes right before a competition. I think that would be interesting
If you've seen Sandra's audition tape, you might recall how she wasn't just auditioning for Survivor, she was auditioning to "make it out." There was this tone in her video that she couldn't keep living life the same way, she wanted to do something change her family's circumstances. That desperation and drive is kind of missing from castaways lately (not all, but a lot). Survivor needs to cast people who NEED to make it out of their situation. the lawyers, the techies, the people in entertainment— they'll be fine without the money. give me factory workers, people in construction, minimum wage employees, servers, truck drivers, janitors. give me someone who needs to be the sole survivor to change their life.
" diversity " aka 20 people from california and 20 lawyers / tech workers
Increase it to at least 31 days and more variety in challenges, not just races that ends in puzzles. Remember rolling huge balls as a tribe, or trying to catch the other tribe while going round a circle? Or that Pearl Island challenge where the strongest member of the tribe holds on to a rope carrying weights? Bring those types of variety.
I wish they would bring back touchy subjects, 46 was such a missed opportunity, it would've been the perfect season to bring it back
Carson wants more returnee seasons lmaooo I wonder why. I do agree but so funny
You become a survivor legend by doing well in returnee seasons. Survivor fans would have felt less burned by production if they had a returnee season before 50 for the old school players to mix with new era players. A lot of people from 41-49 r going to be left off the table
I agree that 26 days is getting to the point where there’s only so much you can throw into the edit before it gets a bit boring. I’m a strong believer that 30/32 days is THE PERFECT middle ground between old and new in terms of the length and that they should give it a shot. They also need to bring the live vote reading in LA back (which we’re thankfully getting in 50) and having some challenge designers from international versions of the show would also be cool…I don’t think it’ll happen due to Jeff being so against acknowledging other versions of the show but who knows. Would also pay a hefty sum to see the American version take a page from Australia and do a “USA vs The World” season with some of the best players from the states and the world playing the game over 32 days. Also not gonna happened probably but who knows
Carson: trips over his words a little bit "...Cut this out" Once Upon an Island: keeps it in Lol.
That thumbnail though 👀 Need to go back to 39 days, new location and switch up the challenges. Kinda sick of puzzles
6:40 The problem is they're not ACTUALLY casting people from different backgrounds though, 10 people that grew up in California inherently have the same background regardless of their skin color...they're just casting people based on a quota that only keeps skin color in mind, which is EASILY the most shallow form of diversity one can try pointing to
I would love for them to bring back the idea of a "double elimination"- after a player is eliminated, Jeff says oh no no you're not going back to camp, go race through the woods in the dark for immunity before another one of you goes. This would be more fun than the split and double elimination at the merge, and allow for big blindsides. I also want a larger variety of immunity challenges in general. Do some night challenges. Go wake the camp up with a boat at 4 am. Get some amazing sunset shots. Have fun with it. Also if they want to do a basic obstacle course, the simple addition of doing it at night could spice up the results.
So I've been watching Survivor since I was 9 and I will be turning 35 this summer... Time is running out for me but I want to play so bad. At this rate I hope to be a Tom or Terry but I want to play someday. These videos keep my hope alive. Maybe I can be the first Gabe to win lol. Amazing videos, thank you!
We should never go more than 4 seasons without a returnee season imo. Let us get to know these characters and let them evolve and change and grow.
I believe some former AU player was asked if he’d want to play american survivor or something along those lines and they said something like “no, the game has just turned into a bunch of nerdy gamebots doing puzzles”
