Interesting you posted this. I was just talking to some friends who work for Caterpillar. Apparently, many of these were in the Lowe's rental program, but when it was discontinued they were all trashed, many in good working order. Some who work for Cat who also took them from the dumpster and rescued them. They are nearly bulletproof if you can find one.
I own that exact generator. It has worked without issue, but I store it dry. Nice to see a repair on it.
That Cat is practically brand new. Perfectly good genny thrown in the trash😢. Jason and you are saving the planet 😅
25:48 while Vinnie is conspicuously absent, the shop Cat makes her cameo appearance checking on the new CAT....good job James a fine machine!
Good save. That generator needed a technician more than it needed a scrapper. Glad that it's healthy again.
I own one of these, works to this day, never has failed me once.
I've been making use of a recipe for rust remover that has been quite effective and significantly less expensive than evaporust Rust remover: 1L water 100g citric acid One of: 40g Sodium Carbonate (washing soda) 63g Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) 30g Sodium Hydroxide (lye) Foams a lot so mix slowly. Edit to add: A small amount of dish detergent as a surfactant. This is from the Backyard Ballistics youtube channel if you want to search it up. He did a lot of testing to validate this vs evaporust.
Wow, the liquid in the tank sure looked like something prehistoric directly from the LaBrea Tar Pits!
Hi James, after talking with you last week, I found some of those dental drills for a root canal work on Amazon. Thank you.
I always appreciate the attention to detail on your channel. Thanks for saving this machine. I'll be out mowing today with my 50+ year-old Massey 14 with the original Kohler K-321 which is starting on it's second half-century of being "saved".
Another very lucky find! You prove yet again that knowing what you are doing and the why of it, is the mark of a very fine mechanic.
Everytime James puts out a video similar to this, it reinforces my decision to never run my tri-fuel generator on gasoline. Sure, propane and NG offer less kW, but I bought an oversized machine to account for that. Gasoline is awesome until you either ignore or forget about it. Haha
Never thought I'd see a new upload and say, "Only 45 mins long?" But, when it comes to James videos the longer the better. Thanks for the video, and another reminder of how much I've learned since I found your channel. 👍 Hope you and your family have blessed Easter. "He is not here. He has risen just as He said" [Matt 28v6].
I wish people threw things like that in the trash around here! The sales companies have gotten lots of us used to the "throw away" mentality and it shows in the kind of things that show up in the trash. Another great save for a pretty nice machine. Way to go on getting this one back up and running... I always enjoy your videos as even at 82 years old, I still learn things often by watching what you do so well. Keep up the great work.... Aloha....
My poor back aches watching that tank cleaning! 😂 Another great video.
Really like the small LED light by the outlets.
Nice save, Doc. You might want to add "wobble" extensions to your tool box.
I think that design engineers should be forced to take apart and then re-assemble anything they design. Thanks for the video, James. Every one is like a master class in small engine/generator repair.
Omg.. That’s one pice of a great Generator.. I’d totally like to have that one since they’re not seen very often.
