If the Olympics are to continue to exist, is long past time for the IOC to face reality and create permanent venues for both the Summer and Winter Games. The current system is increasingly unsustainable.

@ctalcantara1700

Yes it was considered a financial fiasco at the time. In today's dollars, $1.6 billion would be around $10, which is considered cheap for an Olympics as Rio cost $13 billion and Paris 2024 is estimated to cost $8 billion with most of their venues already built. But Montreal would not be the same without its history of big costly events like Expo 67 and 76 Olympics. These events help the development of its subways and monumental facilities that the city is renowned for.

@michaelrecycle9838

Montrealer here. It's crazy to think of what that money could have been spent on.
[side note: the cost continues as the gov't of Québec green lit a $870M new roof for the Olympic stadium (which will obviously go over budget)]

@journeyswithj246

Great concise video.

@Bobcat1438

To add insult to injury Canada didn't even win a gold medal at the games they hosted (they got five silver and six bronze). I imagine this would've made Canadians; especially those from Montreal forget about those Olympics even more.

@bytbeauty286

Crazy amount of money

@NyanyiC

The smokers were not amused! 😂

@PUNKinDRUBLIC72

They didn't plan for what happened to the venues like Sydney or London 2012. London cost a lot but didn't lose £££££!

@MonsterMoneyMindset

Wow. Why do cities compete to host this when it seems like such a bad idea?

@sherifatogunmuyiwa1073

Lets cancel the Olympics

@sqr2024

Should be no more Olympics
