@Typ-oh57

His Brain is a living machine so he merely simulates the powers in his head, then his cells and DNA adapt to allow the simulation to manifest into the real.

@Jeanp679

So he basically is a super powered psychopath

@cane63106

I still like to think that he's a relative of some sort. Like, his father and Papa Patrelli being brothers with different versions of the same type of power. It's all mimicry with like 3 paths to the same result.
I did love the difference between him stealing powers and copying as Peter does. In going for the direct touch he had mastery of it, almost instantly, but without killing he had to practice and learn it the hard way, like he did with Elle and her electricity.

@PrettyIndependent1

I never noticed that!!! How do you learn how to adapt someone’s genetics. Good point lol!!! Maybe that’s a part of his power of not only understanding how things work but maybe his genetics have a super mirroring ability.

@lukegold4089

I thought he eat brains and thats how he got them 😅

@triumphTLG

The logic about him learning powers always bothered me but the show is cool so I just let it slide

@thebarbelllifestyle1478

I preferred when he was confirmed by mohinder's dad to not have any abilities, leading us to believe he probably had some semblance of ocd and autism that was cranked up for plot purposes. Because that way, his character arc was one of betrayal over a destiny not being fulfilled, which was given to him by his then-father figure, which made his fall all the more tragic.

When they decided it was an actual ability, then it took away almost all his agency because his choice to steal others' powers wasn't rooted in jealousy and resentment and a God complex of wanting to be the only special one but instead a byproduct of an ability he didn't know he had, which ruined a lot of his character for me (even though he was still my favorite).

@bankscaldwell3783

If in had to choose 1 power......

@Typ-oh57

What if there was a universe where the first power he observed was empathy mimicry and it was through eye contact studying the brain through peoples eyes?

@jsuperboy

how can he use other abilities? thats like asking "can all humans sing?" short answer... yes and no, the long answer the concept of "can all humans sing" is much more complex what you're really asking can all human learn the ability to sing that is yes but do all humans have a natural inclination to sing no. Same here with powers because we are all humans well all have the same genetic potential as everyone else but we all have a natural inclination to different genetic traits than others do to our surrounding environment hence genetic diversity. Sylar is able to learn these traits even though he is not naturally incline to them Mohindr has stated that Sylars DNA is like a chameleon able to change his genetic position at will while he describes Peter who has similar ability that his DNA is like a mosaic sponge constantly absorbing other abilities. The potential is there just others have a natural disposition to access them is all

@morstur

im pretty sure he uses his power (Intuitive Aptitude) to see what gives the person their power, then somehow understanding it he gains it???

@RAEN74

Well that's just dumb

@Syddtheslump

Actually in the show mohinder finds out that it's not to do with genetics but it has to do with adrenaline so it's your body's reaction to the adrenaline that determines the power that you get not your genetics so he is finding out which section of your brain is working to make that power that is working coherently alongside with the adrenaline that is released which is how he is able to copy other people's powers it's the same thing with Peter
