0:11 I bet that this sentence and the sentence “battleship New Jersey receives operating support from the New Jersey department of state…” is so ingrained in Ryan’s mind by now that he won’t forget it even in his old age 😉
I honestly kinda like the Omaha in world of warships. I play it more like a big destroyer killer, with the fast firing 6” in he it does pretty good as long as you avoid larger ships
There is also the WW1 vintage C-Class Light Cruiser HMS Caroline in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Was not expecting an Omaha or Navy Field shout-out this morning, but they're certainly welcome ones.
18:54 London was scrapped in 1950, but the last County class cruiser was HMS Cumberland which continued to serve after the war as a test ship until she was scrapped in 1959
Prinz Eugen IS preserved -- as a favorite scuba diving site!
USS Wichita!!! Baltimores are based on Wichita which herself is a modified Brooklyn hull with more armor and 3 8-inch gun turrets. Wichita is my favorite cruiser. She was a turning point and prototype for all American heavy cruisers built after her.
San Diego in San Diego, eh? Eh? Pretty neat right?
Foreign cruiser -- Leander class HMNZS Achilles! Was used in the movie about the Graf Spee in the 1950s.
My personal favorite cruiser class is the Brooklyns as they were the fighting workhorse ships for the USN. from '42 to mid-'43, a Brooklyn was at almost every single surface engagement for the pacific campaign and were expertly piloted for the most part. but I personally wish USS Saint Paul was saved. She was in commission from Korea to the end of Vietnam with no decoms, kept all 9 of her main battery guns, kept most of her 5" guns, never got much missiles even when things like the ugly Bostons came online, and a movie star! She would've made a fantastic museum ship in the Twin Cities
You forgot to end it with "Battleship new Jersey recieves operating support from the state of New Jersey." I have already forgotten the rest.
My top pic for any US Cruiser to be preserved would be Admiral Callahans’ flag ship, USS San Francisco. The gauntlet and crucible she endured during 1942 alone should’ve preserved her for all time sake.
Prinz Eugen? A ship that avoided combat like no other? :D
I love Ryan’s choice of the Omaha class. For being so crap they have some great stories. Voyage of Marblehead for one, and that USS Omaha was the last US ship to take an enemy ship as a prize. She would have been great tied up on the Missouri in her namesake town. (Also I just love playing Marblehead in WoWS and ending up top of my team when Im bottom tier. She and Omaha can be hilariously good if you know what you’re doing and avoid getting obliterated)
I know I'm biased, but I really wish HMAS Australia was preserved after the war. The Counties may not have been very flashy ships by WW2 standards, but Australia was the last big-gun Capital Ship the RAN had, and she had a pretty impressive war record to boot.
San Diego and San Francisco should’ve been preserved. Also would’ve been nice to keep one of the Brooklyns (I know Chile still has one, but it’s not the same).
My dad was a swabbie stationed at USS St. Paul early in his USN carer. Nice cruiser class.
Mine would be the Clevelands and the Baltimores.
I know this is not a carrier episode, but If you wanted to keep a non USN carrier I'd pick HMS Furious. By the time she was scraped she was the oldest carrier in the world.
