One of the themes that is raised by the panel is the role of the education system and the responsibility of the media when it comes to increasing the volume of political consciousness in the UK (particularly with a younger demographic). I agree 100% but would add that there needs to be a direct relationship demonstrated between the political institutions (e.g, Westminster, Parliament, parties, local councils, etc.) and political opinion and reality. Cultural relevance and individual participation also need to be encouraged. Issues such as Brexit were grossly misunderstood and people were not equipped with the basic knowledge of what the EU is and how it interacts with the UK's political system. The reality was that the info was always only a Google search or YouTube video away - even if the search results needed verifying. The fact that people couldn't even be bothered to find out fundamental facts for themselves leads me to doubt whether the wider population will ever be convinced to engage in politics in a serious and credible way. Politics shouldn't be easy. It's complex and nuanced. Perhaps it's critical thinking that we need to encourage? Loved watching these panel debates from The Convention. Fills me with optimism.
What's really disturbing is that this video has such a dismal viewership , as so many from this convention after nearly three days online presence
What we can now see, is that Cameron should have gone to the country to get feedback, but not about the EU, but about the state of the country. That would have given him the many areas that could be worked on, to improve the lot of many of those that feel they have been left behind. Project hope is very important to all EU citizens. And hope is something that UK citizens feel they have lost. The real cause of local bad feelings are actually within the power of the UK government to fix. But, blaming someone else saved face. Is this what politics has come to in the 21st? Time for major change and Brexit is not going to deliver that change because the same government will be in charge, no matter what. If they could have made life better for many, they would have done that already.
First guy doesn't know what he's talking about SNP do not ahve an overall majority in the Scottish Parliament, its PR system and they are a minoity Government...
The absolute irony. 40 years of a neo-liberal Overton window but only now is there aparrently issue with "Propaganda." Absolutely hilarious and tragic.
