Thanks for your straight up honesty - unlike 99% of the rest of Youtube. You basically only ever hear about the successes, almost never the failures...I hope this last game your making does better and yes, maybe get into marking some more...good idea
Developing games while you work at construction full time is not easy... I respect you for your hard work and passion. I hope one day you will achieve great success so keep it up brother!
The fact you started at zero and ended up releasing something on steam is pretty epic. Good work.
Your perseverance is inspiring and your raw authenticity is refreshing. Wishing you much success!
hearing you talk about doing game dev on the side that consistently for that long while being that busy at another job is incredible really, I hope you are able to continue to do this fulltime, thank you for sharing your journey either way!
I've been making games solo for the past six years and this video is extremely relatable, seeing you not quit even after your game doesn't succeed is very inspiring to me. I wish you all the luck with your games and devlogs and I hope you will be able to live the dream and keep making games fulltime!
Whether you're approach was the best or not is irrelevant; you got the projects finished, that's the important part. Most game devs, myself included, never finish what they start, so you've already lapped most of us not only once, but twice! I've struggled my entire gamedev journey with consistently working and seeing things through to the end, so to hear about your experiences helps light a necessary fire under me. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Thanks for sharing your story! Keep up the work brother!
This is fantastic. Very real, human, honest, and hopefully very inspirational to people who started basically where you did. You did exactly the thing that thousands turn to wanting to do every year, and you made it work. And still are! Very impressive, well done and congratulations.
This new wave of indie development is so cool to see. It reminds me of the strange yet raw times of computer games in the 90s. I'm 38 and I remember playing games like Myst and Jagged Alliance 2 as a 12 year old. They were just so...pure. And unique. More people should make games, where completely new ideas can come from.
Alright brother I am saying this from the MOST LOVING and positive place in my heart. I have worked in sales and customer-facing positions my entire life (sales, golf caddie, hotel manager, and now I have been running my own detailing business, successfully, for two years). That's to give you an idea of why I feel confident saying this: You 100% will be successful. I know for a 100% fact. But there's a catch. You desperately NEED to spend time on your "presentation". Everything about your image and public persona. This is what snatches the most positive mass attention and gives you trust and respect in the public eye. For your game AND MORE IMPORTANTLY for your physical self. Your camera quality, your haircut, your clothes, your body language & posture, your video background, your speech cadence and volume, your eye contact, and everything that's setting the scene on camera, etc. You know how games require hundreds of layers of consideration? Think the same way with your content publishing and I PROMISE you will 100% succeed in your marketing and devlog efforts. Consider the lighting, your words, your clothes, etc etc like I said above. The beautiful thing is that you can do 20 takes to get it right before posting. And take this same energy into your games. I really like your persistence and I respect your journey. You're going to do big things and I wanted to pitch this to you in hopes I might help in a meaningful way. God bless you brother. I'm proud to see you sticking with it and busting it out. Hell yeah.
I salute for people who so brave and never give up...
I applaud your resilience. Grinding your way from nothing to multiple steam releases is a big achievement. The one thing I personally found from making games is that art (3d, design, etc) makes up more than 60% of most games and doing all that solo is just impossible.
Awesome Video! It was really enlightening to learn about your story and see how I could maybe adjust my learning style when it comes to Game Dev :)
All the success to you! You really deserve it!
Good luck brother! Keep hustling, doing what you enjoy. Makes the world a better place.
This is my first post on Youtube in probably 15 years. First off, it's very refreshing to stumble upon someone as authentic as you on Youtube. As someone who works in a creative field, but who needs a creative outlet in my spare-time, hearing about your journey has inspired me to get serious about game dev. I've wanted to get into it for so long, not knowing where to start. Your sheer will and perseverence tells me I, too, can find the motivation and courage to start. Thank you! I have faith in you.
Very inspiring story, I wish you the absolute best and I'm certain you'll be a huge success!
I put it on my wishlist. As soon as it comes out I will be more than happy to buy the game and support you. Keep up the work my man!
