The first attack in The War of 1812 was made my American forces attampting to make Canada part of the US.
Canadians were pretty much left to fend for themselves, as The British did't have forces available to assist.
The war was considered to be a draw, so the US did not defeat The British, but were largely brought to a stalemate by Canadian voluteers.

I read somewhere James Madison actually wrote up the 'Monroe Doctrine' then gave it to Monroe and said here, you'll need this. And sure enough in the 1820's when Monroe became president he implemented it.

I love how britain has always just had the nerve to give away land they don't even own and have no right to give. They did something similar in 1948 or so and it's still creating conflict and causing mass casualties of innocent people to this very day.
