The grey side panels all have Technics hole in them. You could also have made a device with axle stubs to align with two holes, whilst firing a pointed metal tip through one of the others with a motor released elastic band launcher.

This was super cool but i wanted to see the balloon popped with 100% lego parts. The limitation of Lego's design philosophy excluding sharp edges is what would make a real challenge
