Thanks for the tour. Amazing how 1,000 years of Constantinopolitan history were barely mentioned in my 12 years of school and college (even took a course on middle eastern history).
Watching these as I enjoy your amazing book. Thank you
Wow! What a fun surprise to be surfing Youtube for videos on Byzantine subjects and find Lars Brownworth of ancient Western New York college days! I will be checking out your other videos as I get time!
Thanks again Lars for another fascinating and informative video. How did you get to tour Hagia Sophia with no crowds?
Pls come back to YouTube

Justinian never thought small
I love that at least one cross has endured the Centuries of foreign rule…
Cool beans
I hate looking back at my high school world history class. They did mention the Byzantines. But they literally just showed us pictures of its borders getting smaller thru time then just telling us it collapsed. No mentions of emperors or accomplishments or key events. But we would spend entire weeks on the Mongols, Chinese dynasties, caliphates, and obviously mostly Western Europe. I was taught more about Spain’s 600 year history than eastern romes 1100…
Since 1453,that city was never again a Christian dominate state.
Need more knowledge to learn mate
I wonder why iraq got destoryed Hmm? they took constantinople.
Hagia Sophia is a wonderful building. It is a tragedy that the West lost Constantinople to the Turks. I wish the west could reconquest the Golden Horn and repossess Hagia Sophia.
