Ein neues Fern video šŸ˜ die Frequenz ist so der Hammer in letzter Zeit ā¤

@miloyall

Wikipedia is the greatest gift to the internet and one of the best historical changes in society in my opinion. And I’m completely on board with them asking for donations and even donating myself, but the fact that they act so desperate and urgent when in all actuality they aren’t almost feels like it betrays the one thing the site stands for.

@AG7-MTM

There's one small caveat that I think makes Wikipedia's case justifiable: there are absolutely no banner ads or ads from third parties , unlike other sites

@ThoughtfulAl

Phew that's quite a relief. I was having trouble sleeping at night, thinking that somehow we would lose all accumlated Wiki knowledge into the void.

@tranmthu

I don't mind sites asking for donations, but wikipedia's pleading tone always rub me the wrong way, knowing that they have more than enough.
At least with donations to AO3 I get to vote in the chair elections and get some merch. Wikipedia should offer more incentives to donate instead of suggesting their finances are dire.

@Boppamags

Does anyone else think it's halarious how he says Wikipedia?

@Aguycalledmax

If Wikipedia was constantly on the brink of bankruptcy this could be used as leverage by nefarious actors against the project. Financial stability is purely a good thing for a non-profit organisation. Sure, maybe they already have millions in the bank, but who actually benefits from that?

I donate every month to the Wikimedia foundation and will continue to do so. As I see it, I get enormous value out of Wikipedia and so do all of my friends and family who do not donate. I’m paying for myself and those around me to have free and open access to the world’s collected knowledge. To me, that’s pretty cool.

@potatoes3712

This videos thumbnail was the last thing I saw before cutting my gum open with a doreto

@mojitomaker

I used to donate, but stopped last year. Then came across this video today. Pretty outraged, thank you for surfacing this.

@pepsioverlord

6:12 Why is New Zealand ALWAYS excluded from World Maps! Also I think it's good Wikipedia has excess money,That way they can keep giving us new features which cost time and money.

@thevillager8339

Wake up babe, our favourite continental European posted

@Matoa98

the website of misinformation where the editor keep being banned from telling the truth, that we have to use web archives to see what they edited

@khoinguyen619

Thanks for the insight! I’ve donated to Wikipedia here and there myself, and honestly, I feel more at peace knowing they might be stretching the truth a bit than thinking they’re on the verge of collapse.

@user-sf4fy8bq1h

Wikipedia is the absolute best thing humanity has ever done with the internet, I don't give a damn how much money they have, it's not enough. I will always donate my $2 a month and if you use it more than once a week then so should you!

@ash3415

i’d rather a video beg me for donations rather than 1/3 of it be a fucking ad

@someguy2338

Gutes Video. Danke für die Quellen.

@clashtwo5066

We now know, yes.
Yes they are.

@Pro-w7q8q

THANK YOU for making a video on this, this confused me too.

@semiliterati

I think it says a lot that this is their worse known scandal. I guess they should probably do better with the misleading nature of their fundraising, but if they're going to be doing worthwhile things with the money, which I'd include high wages for their employees, I don't personally see an issue with the frequency of their requests. It's not like what their offering isn't apparently valuable. Just continue being awesome, and point out that being grateful for the access can also mean monetarily, so don't forget about us when you got a little to spare. They don't gotta lie to kick it. I'd actually prefer they went the other way with it. Go full transparency. These funds covered our hard costs. These funds went in to profit focused investments for our future. These funds went in to R&D towards staying relevant in servicing future tech's needs to accessing free information. This is how much we pay our people, so stay in school and maybe one day that could be you. Just fully lean in to unmetered access to unlimited information. Be the example that consequentially reveals how fucked up just about every other organization actually is.

@imlilangu007

Asking a donor to include Wikimedia in his Will and also directing him to a Will making site is utterly diabolical!!
