@tylerrichards5457

Now these are the Vox videos I miss..

@DMurdock

"I'm the last one. Shut it down." - a lot of immigrants, for some reason, after gaining citizenship

@osaka5754

The chills I received at the end of this video. I had no idea that the 14th amendment is practically a treaty. It really puts into perspective how divided we once were, and how divided we still are. But Effectively telling the South "You don't get to become Americans again until you open the door to let others become citizens" is so wild. This country is so rich in not only history, but also drama.

@Nuggypeeep

Wow, the music, information and narration were cohesive and beautiful. Didn’t know all this stuff about birthright citizenship!

@jorgeromero1352

Poor superman is no longer American

@DK-ue5ks

Fun fact any child that has US citizenship and turns 18 will have to file taxes even if they live outside the country.

@WhiskeyAlphaRomeo

That line about the fourteenth amendment being a treaty is poetry. I wish more people could understand that and if you dismantle the fourteenth amendment you are dismantling that treaty.

@jasonjames4254

I would think that simply having taxes withheld from your paycheck pretty much proves that you're subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S.

@Damnnnbruh

Well 90% of the lineages of the people of the USA are not from America so idk

@sundazenwednesdaze

"you have lost a war and these are the terms of peace"

@drunknihilism7181

Reminder that the US had open borders until 1882 when they imposed the first ever immigration law SOLELY to stop Chinese labourers from immigrating here

Basically every contention around citizenship is always about race, especially birthright citizenship. Meanwhile during that time America expanded and boomed because of the immigrants that came over to work and built out most of this country despite the horrible conditions along with the slaves that later were given citizenship. It is always people trying to pull the ladder up behind them because they're entitled and think being lucky enough that their family came over before there were any immigration laws means they have more of a right to live and work here and anybody else

@heronimousbrapson863

The United States is not the only country with birthright citizenship. My country Canada does as well, as do other countries.

@jessetorres8738

If it's in The United States Constitution, The President can't abolish it through an Executive Order. Furthermore, ending birthright citizenship would apply to everyone born in The U.S. (not just the children of migrants).

@peoplesrepublicofliberland5606

So if the 14 Amendment is up for interpretation when it's clear. Is the 2nd Amendment also?

@btk1243

"We Need to hold HIGH STANDARDS for who gets to be a citizen". . . BUT . . . If you have $5 Million - then You're In /s

@jmr18p

And this is why I don't understand the disconnect other racial demographic groups have towards Black/African American issues. Black/African American issues are issues that literally paved the way for some of these other groups to reap the benefits from.

@zappababe8577

This reminded me of a hospital in Canada declaring itself Dutch,just whilst Princess Juliana of the Netherlands gave birth to her daughter, Princess Margaret. That meant that the baby was Dutch at birth, and not Canadian, thereby her rights of succession to the throne were retained. The Netherlands and Canada continue to enjoy a very happy international relationship!

@joedadi

The editing in this video flows like a beautifully choreographed dance.

@SoMeLiKEiThOtTeRr

Vox please continue to make these videos, I have missed them tremendously.

@CarterCrews

i’m from Tennessee, and i noticed that you didn’t highlight TN as being required to ratify the 14th amendment to rejoin the Union. this made me do some research of my own:
it blew my mind to see how much special treatment TN got from the Union post-war. only state that didn’t have to rewrite their constitution, no martial law, and was the first state to reenter the Union. apparently this was due to Unionization that happened near the end of the war, and TN ratifying the 14th amendment on our own without coercion. absolutely fascinating!
