The fact that the Chinese netizens thought that the idea of US citizens having to pay for ambulances was so bad that it couldn’t be real and had to be Chinese propaganda against the US will never not be hilarious to me.
"People in China think that it's propaganda that Americans have to pay for ambulances." omg, rotf.
I live in Canada and I now hear many Canadians saying "at this point, China is more trustworthy" or "at least China is not trying to annex us". Those are things I never would've expected to see like, ever. What a crazy timeline we live in.
Chinese strategy on geopolitics: >Do nothing >Win
My opinion of China changed so drastically to the point where I’ve decided to learn mandarin
ishowspeed has been singlehandedly fixing Chinese USA relations
As a Chinese I really hate the "China do nothing and win" meme. It really undermines our hard work and the hardships we encountered. It's not just the people. Without the Chinese government's very strategic planning and execution, we wouldn't have all the good life we live today. Honestly I think China in the past 40 years has the most astonishing progress in human history, no exaggeration, no comparison.
"Made in Germany" used to be a sign of bad quality too, but we have proven ourselves and made it a sign for excellent quality. China can do it too. They for sure got expertise in production and the workers with great work experience for it too.
Capitalism collapsing also helped make Communism cool. But yeah, I also think things like Genshin Impact are underestimated, in regards to soft power.
I can't remember who said it, but someone put it into perspective pretty well: China and the West often define "freedom" differently. In the West, when we say "freedom," we often mean "freedom to": freedom to speak our minds, freedom to worship our religions, etc. In China, what people want in "freedom" is "freedom from": freedom from fear of being the victim of a crime, freedom from worries about suddenly being unable to make ends meet, etc. Yes, speech, press, and religion are important, but when a family can't afford food and a suitable living environment while constantly having to look over their shoulders because they're worried about being robbed (and knowing the cops are inefficient), what good do those freedoms do?
Honestly, good for China. The west has been painting a ridiculous picture of this country for too long, it’s nice to see that Chinese culture has finally started getting mass recognition and respect in the west. Chinese government is far from perfect of course and deserves criticism, however the government is only one side of a country.
"but muh The art of the deal.." I live in Indonesia, we never done anything to the Americans and yet we got hit by tariff. My uncle have a trading business and owned a warehouse in Chicago. He probably will lose some of his American customer just because the American consumers today will have weaker purchasing power for imported goods since they must pay for all that taxes on top of the shipping fees and for the product itself. It will always surprise me how the "Anti Establishment" supporters over there just gladly accepting a huge load of taxes on their head.
im just in LOVE with how trump is destroying the US and how americans are finally realizing they’re NOT living the best life ever
China is just returning to its status and position in the world. If you study human history for over 2000 years, you would know that before the Industrial Revolution, China's soft power was always top of the ancient world. In the East, Japan, Korea... were basically under the heavy influence of Chinese culture; they copied, imported everything from China, then localized and modified many things based on Chinese culture. Which basically formed the Sinosphere (Chinese cultural sphere) In the West, Western nations were fascinated by Chinese products, silk, porcelain, tea, paper, gunpowder...and fantasized about exotic Chinese/oriental from the far East...Many ancient Western scholars and figures dreamed of going to China. Think of Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus... they dreamed of going to China so bad that they ended up going to China, with Columbus wanting to find a short way to China but accidentally reached America and until his death, he still thought the land was China.
Korea and Japan are very popular in the west. I traveled Korea,Japan, and China for months in 2024,China is equally clean,safe,hi-tech,friendly as Korea or Japan,if not better. But China is massive, more diverse, and much much cheaper. I prefer China.
The arts only flourish when a country is stable, prosperous, and flourishing. Aint no one got time for leisure if they and their families are starving. China decades ago was very pour and instead focused on trying to improve the quality of life of a billion people. Now China is better off and so has more time to develop media, regardless of state sponsorship or not. Japan and Korea had a lot of “soft power” becasue they industrialized a lot earlier and also have a smaller population which led to flourishing of arts sooner.
here's another fact about Nezha 2, the director invested all his money earned from Nezha 1 but still short of fund, and then many VFX Studios of Chinese game and animation industry reached out to help, asking very basic or even little payment, they simply saw it as an opportunity to contribute to a crucial moment of Chinese film and animation industry, to mark their names in the history of Chinese film and animation industry, or just to fulfill their childhood dream. Many on western social media like to play with the meme that China and our Chad leader Xi basically "Do nothing and win" (no offence, I myself like this meme very much), but actually China isn't really "do nothing", it has been working hard since the beginning, it's just the people who prefer fancy "realism zero-sum international strategies" and toxic mindset of win in everything that don't see the value of basic, honest works. Don't turn everything into a competition, don't seek rival and go into competition too easily, coz there are consequences and costs you didn't realize in each win, and oftentimes what you gain from a win isn't as much as you think you would, those who has the most wins in the shortest time might be the first one to burn out, but it is the last one standing is the true winner.
China has severely lacked Soft Power for a long time, even despite their mega popular Gacha games. US's rapid decline in global popularity means they will capitalize
As a young person in the US I hear a lot from older people saying "don't you care about privacy?" but post 9/11 the traditional US idea of privacy is nonexistent (I was born post 9/11 so I have no experiences before this change). The US is a highly independent nation, but the war on terror greatly reduced this extreme independence by eliminating privacy protections. The government buys people's data and people don't always know this but Roe v. Wade, while based on an abortion case, was about the right to privacy, and that has recently been dismissed by the supreme court. A lack of privacy historically falls in line with red scare propaganda so when the internet allowed people to see that other countries with privacy violations and "socialist" tendencies have better standards of living, the propaganda started to wear off. People in the world are looking for change at the moment and for some people in the US, looking to China is a way to embrace change.
