Glad I saw this. I moved to new state but with same job. Googled benefit term and new state only pays 26 weeks vs old state which pays 52 weeks. Fear of being laid off made me start researching. This sucks.

From the way you're telling this (as if it's such a huge emotional event, even identifying yourself with your job; WTF? :D), it seems like we're starting to live in a social psychosis of fear of losing our jobs, because the threat affects the majority. That means most people are "mentally sitting on a ticking bomb" (permanent fear, which means cortisol production), and on top of that, there are loans, etc. It's going to be a loooong 20 years...

About that "layoff letter", is that really a good idea? I'm wondering whether it might be more beneficial to quickly tell a hiring manager if he asks that the company restructured and my position was affected and then immediately pivot to what value i would bring to his organization rather than to focus him on the possible causes of my position being cut.

I got terminated/discharged with 8 weeks & was only at my job a year & 1 month. It's probably due to me explaining that I was harassed & contemplated suing the company for harassment & intimidation. I definitely wasn't sad losing my job, I was neutral tbh I even had a chance to pay off my car loan but barely started a new job 5 weeks later.
