25-30 systems == lots of tradestation crashes as TS get unresponsive and slows down == big headaches recovering from crashes and removing all the duplicated buy stop orders and getting the strategy positions back in sync with the actual positions. Systems must be actively monitored to ensure the strategy matches the expected positions and the discretionary choices are difficult like when to turn on and turn off a strategy, how to combine strategies to create a portfolio, how to equal weight them by either risk or volatility. What to do just before big news is about to be announced.

@jamesfurther5051

Massive advantages indeed. I'll never go back to my punting days. Great summary.

@jamesstephenson5391

Thanks for introducing me to the world of quant trading.

@dumbcat

Advantage: if you get really good you can sell your signals or sell your own black box system without ever risking your own money, or manage a fund where you receive a management fee and % of returns without ever risking your own money and/or work for a firm the pays extremely well

@joenugent3994

Love my algorithmic trading

@johnspalding7941

My comment is not totally on topic of algo vs discretionary trading, but the topic brought to mind the topic of trading two algo strategies at the same time on the same symbol. For example, trading the Lilas RB 104 min and the Bucks RB 240. By themselves both have great theoretical results but how do they do together. Whether in the same or separate accounts when one is long and the other short the net is flat. Of course when they both are long or short the effect is doubling the number of contracts traded. Seems to me to answer this question the two strats would need to be combined into one strat to get a true reading of their combined outcome. So are two any better than just one or the other?

@amywilliams5176

I never knew the potential of trading with algorithms.

@trimih

Always has had advantages

@dumbcat

discretionary trading is a nightmare for most people. all those days, weeks, months and years wasted always trying to make back losses. all the emotional ups and downs. depression. anguish. anger. losing contact with friends and family because you feel down. staying home instead of going outside. discretionary trading is not for most people. everyone claims they 'make money' but conveniently ignore the 10 years of losses they had before this month's gains. the market is engineered to run your stops, enrage you and cause you to trade too big and lose even more money. there are COUNTLESS reasons why people should not manually trade

@agdammucis2299

I love how robot trading takes emotions out of the equation.

@markweber6315

This is all true. I will never go back to just gambling.

@JuanCarlos-rj8md

Your presentation on alg trading is top-notch. I'm done discretionary trading. Waste of time.
