Former Apple user. Only left because cost to build a computer and edit video made more sense the PC route. Upgrading to keep up is far cheaper too. My phone is the last hook Apple has in me.
I have a macbook 2013, great condition..... Eventually, the battery dies so quickly, can't upgrade, everything went to High-def video editing, rendering, my computer useless... most programs and apps, starts to not work and compatible........A replacement cost 1000k..... Note that I take care of my Macbook.....then I switch over to PC in 2020..... Parts are so easiliy and cheaply replaced and upgraded..... costing maybe $100.. that alone is amazing... So team PC now!!!! Long lasting!!!
Usually I assume that "Watch before you _____" videos are just being clickbaity, but this was highly informative and well worth the watch for anyone looking to buy a laptop for video editing
THANK YOU!!! I am an absolute newbie getting into video editing, I know little to nothing about tech, computers, etc. This is EXACTLY the type of resource I was looking for that would educate me on what I need to know about buying a laptop for video editing. So many videos, blogs and websites assume you already have all this knowledge and it's sooo hard to understand what on Earth they're talking about. I was searching for ages trying to find something exactly like this, That would easily break it all down and explain it to me. 10/10 thank you!! Such a great video!
Great information thank you, decision now made for my new career at age 62 !! 😊
don't forget to check the monitor color gamut/accuracy. it should at least 100% RGB . 100% DCI P3 is better
Can I call it a coincidence or something. Last week, I was thinking about upgrading my LENOVO laptop that has served me for the last 4 years but I was confused which one go for between MacBook Pro and and the usual windows laptop that have been using for years. Then out of nowhere this awesome tutorial guide video just popped on my YouTube channel. Thanks a lot mate, I am now going for MacBook Pro M2
Beginning creator and I use what I have which is a Microsoft Surface 7 Pro. Works good for basic editing for YouTube.
Just watched one of your videos. Very informative and easy to understand. I’m 51 with little computer knowledge but love to travel and inspired too make YouTube videos. Easier said than done. Pretty overwhelming
I believe you missing the most important part it is Media Engine Hardware accelerated. For MacBook it only support H.264, Hevc, ProRes and ProRes raw, when it playback av1 video the cpu using more cpu and more energy. If you looks into latest intel cpu it support encode and decode av1. Another new type is vvc. Media Engine is more important in video editing
I know this is not what the video is about, but one other thing I would consider is that a lot of the PC laptops with a dedicated GPU can also be used for gaming. Although the M3 can handle it, not too many games are compatible with Apple.
The first thing I look out for when buying a video editing laptop is does it have an SD Card reader slot.
I went in for 128gb Ram on the m3. I'm editing a full length feature film in 5K. But the caches being generated are horrendous. And then the computer glitches out till I delete all the caches manually which are upto 100 GB ram. Crazy as fcpx is not able to efficiently manage it. But as long as you know how to delete the generated files I'm finding 128 GB is helping me out big time.
You do not need 4k I am pretty sure . barely any laptop comes with 4k display anyway . colour gamut is much more important for creators then anything else in terms of dispplay oh and bigger screen size with decently low weight is nice too. refresh rate doesn't really matter but nice to have
As a computer dummy, this was sooo helpful! I've watched quite a few videos but they mostly left me confused. Instead of talking at me, you really explained things well. I feel armed with knowledge to make a good decision on my own now!
Thank you for this valuable knowledge.
For someone like me, struggling to decide which computer to buy, this was a magnificent, informative and concise video. ¡Thanks a bunch!
I’m a victim to purchasing a Mac book pro m3 128Gb 4Tb storage I found it in the refurb section though so I did save some money and my brother works at apple so I got an extra 15% off. But still stung hard and now I realize I don’t even need all that power doing my light editing and design. Oh well better to have it and not need it plus it’s future proof in a way I guess. I’m enrolled in your course and am enjoying it! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.
We all have to make sure these people that make these videos that there not paid to say the garbage they do.... Make sure they are genuine. This guy knows what he is talking about yippy
