Lies we were told growing up:
You will get a career
You can be ANYTHING you want to be when you grow up
Be nice and kind to others and you will get the same in return
You were the most beautiful baby in the world.
If you need help just ask.

@MaryPierGuilbault

I became a lead singer for Cirque du Soleil years ago, and this could not be more accurate.

Worked my ass off to get there my entire life. Did not have time to see friends from school really, and didn’t party in my teenage years, which I didnt mind, because I was very focus and disciplined.

I cannot even start to tell you how much Ive sacrificed indeed, it has been difficult, competitive and stressful at times ITS CRAZY to do that, I’ve often thought. I thought of quitting so many times just cause its been too much sometimes, the travelling every week, not seeing my close ones, missing almost all the important events in there lives. I cried so many times and burned out myself twice. I’ve even done shows with broken bones.

But somehow. I’VE NEVER FELT LIKE IT WAS A JOB, and SACRIFICES DIDNT FEEL AS BAD as they were because I was PASSIONATE about it. I just feel like Im doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing! Im good at it and know it so well.

I had to find a job during the two years pandemic. And you know what happened?

Turned out… as much as I woukd really want to be with my family all year long and just have a quiet job.. It made me miserable! Having a job got me depressed and sick. At the end of two years… I knew I wouldnt be able to keep having a job. Because I didnt feel accomplished, i didnt feel particularly great at it, I wasnt able to perform well, cause I just didnt have the interest for it. It clearly wasn’t my calling.

I’m so proud of myself and especially greatful for everything I’ve accomplished career wise so far.

But I’m also 37 years old now. And I haven’t had the chance to have any long term relationships. Travelling made it difficult to build something with someone. To have a strong and solid foundation, while I always had to go!

I’m the eldest of three girls. Im the big sister and always loved taking care of everyone. I’ve also always wanted to have kids, since I was a teenager. We all thought I would have been the first to marry, settle down and have kids and that’s it.

The weirdest part is that despite the fact that I started doing it very young, I was always doing it as a hobby, for FUN! I could have never guessed in a million years at the time that I would end up singing for a living for real!

Because I didnt have to think about it as “maybe” a career before I was 21 and had to decide what to study in college.

And even then - choosing to study music and give a shot at a career as a singer, was a bold move. I come from a very small village and no one did that professionally in my family. So I had no expections! No idea of anything hahaha.

So, I totally relate to what he is saying.

@lukemcentee2385

I feel so tricked by the school system into going to college.

@SwingVoter-hz6nn

I work in consulting engineering. I see people who LOVE the work and the craziness. Most of us are just trying to get through our days without screwing anything up so we can go home to our families.

@JoshuaPryce-ps7hx

A job is a good thing to have, keeping it requires consistent hard work.

@ChiefBeef7

I'm a CPA and can confirm. Job is stressful as fuck, long hours, etc. I wish I hadn't pursued this career path, but I've invested way too much time and money into it to pursue something else. I am stuck in my general path and dread my future.

@panicked8676

Guess this is where I feel extremely lucky to be part of that 2%
I genuinely love what I do and I’ve very close bonds with my team, hell I even just helped one of my coworkers mow their lawn not even two hours ago. They’ve brought their daughter over to play with my cats, and even helped me move into my current house last fall. On top of that, I have a very healthy work/life balance, with unlimited PTO and a boss who literally doesn’t care when I log on or how long I’m on at a time as long as my work is done and I’m meeting project deadlines.
Now work, well work is work, and there’s always going to be good days and bad days. There’s always going to be tasks that feel menial that you’ll encounter periodically, but fundamentally, I’m ecstatic to do what I do and I never dread the next workday.
My advice would be to anyone looking to find a “career”, do something that you genuinely enjoy. Put your all into it, cultivate your skills and hone your craft, and you will flourish and eventually achieve the lifestyle you desire. Why? Because you’ll do whatever is necessary to always climb that next rung up the ladder. You’ll never be complacent. You’ll succeed.

@LolitaBrittain

Put his links and his books in the description. Otherwise you’re ripping of.

@allthingsnu4673

I like the way things are outside of corporate America. A business just puts a "Help Wanted" sign in the window and someone who needs a job goes in to ask about the job. No pretense on either part.

@adamstepic8083

Everything he said is a good reason why you should only do the very least. Why work hard and do the extra for just a job.

@14xx07

Feel like it’s edited out of the picture he was trying to get to

@4everpresent802

Link for the whole video?

@BlyatimirPootin

Disagree completely, many more than 2% of people find meaning in their work, I know I do.

@AdrianDeer

Easy for him to say... his careee is amazing.
And at least it pays all his bills and family.

@Punkcyber55

Preferably a job you have a natural affinity for, because that means training takes you from good to great. Then, you start your own business so you can be efficient, without a mandatory minimum of hours, letting you get work done faster. Maximizing your salary and free time.

@ravenking1334

I've come this conclusion years ago now I just want something decent and secure doesn't have to be the greatest job in the world but at least treats me like a person.

@ewci6d

Facts. I got my bachelors but ended up with a minimum wage job.

@HL-iw1du

Thanks for lifting my spirits, Jordan 🙄

@jakerobles1669

Didn’t realize only doctors and lawyer have careers im a project manager and have managed billion dollar jobs! I started off as carpenter and I’m proud to have built the hospitals and court houses yall work in

@Alice0030

I find myself right now in a difficult time, I'm 40 year's old and trying to reorientate towards a job that I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life, it's difficult because I feel that is a lifetime decision I won't be able to do this over and over again and I shouldn't screw it up, feels really much pressure.
