I created an onLoad Client Script and a UI Policy (with "onLoad" checked) without any condition. In the Client Script, I made a field mandatory. In the UI Policy, I made the same field read-only. When I checked the field, I saw that it was read-only but not mandatory. To test the execution order, I added alert statements in both the Client Script and the UI Policy. The alert from the Client Script appeared first, followed by the UI Policy alert. This confirmed that the Client Script runs first and sets the field as mandatory, and then the UI Policy runs and sets it as read-only. Since ServiceNow does not allow a field to be both mandatory and read-only at the same time, the system removes the mandatory setting and applies the read-only property instead. Conclusion: When both Client Script and UI Policy affect the same field with same condition—so client script runs first and UI policy runs next. So changes made by a client script can be overridden by the UI policy. I think this is the reason behind asking the question which runs first. Just to know if the candidate knows this or not.
