@scott6828

"Asking what do you do is the same as what are you worth" I've never thought of it that way....but it's so true!! 😂

@PeriLyons123

Someone gave me this wise advice years ago, and as a result, I now ask people “what do you love to do?”
First they look puzzled, then almost angry- and then they laugh and start talking about what they love!

@DJ-hf3qq

In France it’s considered a little bit rude to ask what someone does, because it’s like asking what they earn. It’s like asking where they come in the hierarchy of life too.

@sparkymac3320

I 100% agree with that. I NEVER ask People what they do. I ask “ what do you like to do, what are your hobbies? When you do that it changes the entire tone of the conversation. It’s awesome, try it.

@Empowered_Bliss

Susan Cain spoke on this a few years ago in her book Quiet. I no longer ask ‘what do you do’ I ask what’s one thing your most proud of within the last year. Best conversation and such a high seeing people happy about themselves! The answers are almost never about their work either.

@Cash_Alchemy

Her name is Vanessa Van Edwards for those wondering

@rolekeroll3498

It's not about the question really, it's about being genuinely interested in the answer.

@premonitions1390

I was a homemaker and stayed home for over a decade to raise our four kids. No regrets. Best years of my life. But it's true. I always dreaded the what do you do question.

@daryasseri2867

My "framework".... aka>>my life... ask..." what do you believe in"... now we can have a real conversation with learnings and depth... transformational not transactional. Most people are unable... and, I will continue to live this mind and heartset/ Peace

@cardinal_thrill5

I always hated being asked “what do you do” when I was a barber. I felt like then the conversation always went to work and I suddenly became this “cool barber” character and it was my defining quality or worth as you put it.

@S.T.A.R.Player

I always ask ppl ‘What’s your passion?’ You can literally see physiological changes in their eyes and body language. I could care less about what you have and who you know. I want to know at the very core of you…what makes your heart beat differently.

@sordidknifeparty

My wife and I have been together for 15 years Karma and she has a tendency to tell me every minute detail of her day in excruciating detail in an actual attempt to cause me to feel the tedium that she feels with her day. This began to really put a strain on our relationship, and so I switched the question from what did you do today or how was your day to did anything interesting happen to you today? This still allows her to share her day with me what causes her to subconsciously focus on the things that were actually interesting and positive

@PsyD2704

Your perspectives are liberating and empowering,
Apparently, asking "what do you do" gives an idea of how much respect you are gonna give them.

@anabellee2602

I love this girl! So true, people measure your worth from appearance and what you do for a living 😢

@50hellkat2

Small talk can be very engaging. 99 percent is not what you say but how you say it.❤

@LukeTruth-vm3du

I have taken her advice, and the response was amazing. The woman was so excited to tell me what was happening in her life. 🎉👍🏾

@ChimiChimiChurryPie

It's so true that we judge people's worth based on their profession. However, I've met some super interesting people with badass jobs. I like to have conversations with people who are NOT in my field and love to hear why they chose their jobs and how they got there. This one guy worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory with NASA and was on the team that sent a vehicle to Mars. Another worked at NOAA and her job was to map the floor of the Pacific Ocean to share the information with the National Weather Service. So cool.

@PlumbingTechCFL

I just asked my husband and daughter this. And I loved their response.

@shaunaarthurs

Love it! So obvious once she says it … it’s so much more exciting for both sides to TALK about what’s exciting us! 💝

@JonathonAslay

Asking someone what they do opens the door to understanding a person's passion if they love what they do. 😊
