I also play drums and have been known to say "If I'm counting, I'm in trouble" Same thing for mixing...Thinking leads to more thinking and over thinking. My job now is to move through the mix with confidence making decisions as I go...I did most of the thinking part years ago.

Finally someone says this, I have been telling that for ages... even to artists which watch YT... the VERY FIRST THING I do when I start a mix is listen to the artists rough mix start to finish and listen very closely to what is making me feel a certain way, WHY did they make this song, WHAT is it that it wants to convey and, HOW can I enhance that. I make notes what grabs my attention and what pushes me away. And then I have a discussion with the artist. I haven't even loaded a track into my DAW at this point, lol.
