@arkknight92

Ducks fan here. Cronin stunted his growth. Didn’t want him to be creative. Play boring dump and chase hockey. With all our young talent, you’d think we’d be scoring more goals. Ducks most boring team to watch in the league smh

@TeeMuhfuccinYoung

Gotta get Cronin outta there

@Thetwotailedkid

As a ducks fan I feel like I know the reason its been seemingly a decline for Zegras, the main reason it isnt clicking is because hes playing winger when he was drafted as a center. He has constantly said he hates the wing and wishes to play center. Cronin also hasnt helped relying on alot of the older players on the main lines screwing up development.

Cronin killed his confidence

Hi. Ducks fan here. A few caveats to this:
-Z has always been the best player on the ice on just about every level he has played, until now. The NHL is a different beast, and he's not an unknown variable anymore. Teams are pitting him against their best defensemen and they're focusing on containing him, which is making life difficult.
-Speaking of keeping him contained, Z's primary strength is as a playmaker. A playmaker can break open a game, but they typically need a finisher. The Ducks, for the better part of the last half-decade, have been TERRIBLE. And arguably the single worst part of their game for the last half-decade has been scoring goals. Z is driving offense and creating plays, but nobody around him can put the puck in the net to give him anything to show for it.
-Greg Cronin is a middling NHL coach... at best. His defensive structure is prone to his players getting pinned in their own end. He also insists on playing a heavy-hockey cycle game that the Ducks as a team are not built to play in the slightest. Cronin also refuses to keep Zegras at center, the position he's clearly the most comfortable in and where he's most effective.
-Speaking of bad coaching, players like Z often make their living on the power play, and the Ducks' power play is brutally bad. There may be no greater need for a coaching change than with whoever is handling that unit because everyone looks flat-out clueless on the ice with the extra man. In many opportunities, Z has been the only player actually creating anything at all.

The point of all of this is to say this: he'll be fine. He's still developing along with much of the team around him, he's been injured to hell, and he's learning to cope with drawing the highest-profile defense assignments from opponents. Z's defensive numbers and two-way game have both improved substantially this season; he's a more balanced player now. And if you need any example of how much he means to the team, just watch how different they are with him in and out of the lineup, especially on the power play.

@smoove6778

If the rumours are true, this is Cronins last year as Ducks hc. That coach isnt a favorite of Trevor, but he developed him some defense game, but hes pure offensive firepower and Cronin doesnt know how to use him on wing either. And Zegras isnt only one who suffers, Mctavish, Gauther, Carlson and mintyukov also struggle this year alot

@LeonWarczak

Contrast this with what Tyler Bertuzzi just did with Bedard
RobTalksHockey made a video
Bedard single handedly entering the zone with goalie pulled
Dishes to Bertuzzi at the line
And Bertuzzi
Dumps it in....

I think I get what he meant meow 🐯

@billstintman

Gotta get this guy back on track

@raritica8409

Zegras is cool, I never understood the h8 tbh

@CrispyChristieMAC

people roasting Zegras not understanding that given any other team (excluding Ana and Chicago and likely SJ) he would have been working out fine. Those are cesspools now and will be for a few more years. I hate to say it, I loved the 2010's hawks. Please god get this kid out of there.

@jdhali93

The Ducks need to fire Cronin, he called Mactavish a 3rd line centre lol
He plays boring hockey for no reason they have a Ferrari for a team treat it as such they can play run and gun and develop a defensive system, Cronin and by extension Verbeek are trying to employ a defensive first approach which I think is wrong for their young roster
Let them play and put up points it’ll lead to more confidence going forward imo
This is from a Canucks fan

@kdude25

Cronin likes having his guys forcheck a lot which isnt Z's strength. But hes improved in that regard, despite the clear late unnecessary hit in that Red Wings game.

I wouldnt say hes awful, but hes a bad fit for the Cronin style of play, which i think most the Ducks players are. The Ducks need to change HC. Silfy let it known hiw much of a problem Cronin can be in his coaching personality. The guy is like Tortorella if he didnt know how to gameplan or design plays for special teams. Cronin is an awful coach.

The only reason the Ducks arent god awful this year is because we have a great goalie tandem with Dostal and Gibson.

@aarongreig9191

Cronin was the coach of the Avs farm team and ruined every single forward prospect they had. He coaches the skill and offence out of everyone he touches.

@AstralHS

Z definitely has his moments but it seems like he is maybe fighting his ego with how young and promising the rest of the ducks roster is. Lacombe taking over the spotlight especially when he was suspended might've made things even worse. I hope he gets out of this funk cause he is so fun to watch.

@flackjacket3dits

Still can't believe this guy was a cover athlete lmao

@jerryrikki9466

In all seriousness he needs to be stronger and put some muscle on him everywhere. I think "put muscle on" is an over simplification in hockey and often wrong but for him and jack hughes, it's a absolute must if they want to play their skill game at the NHL level

@picklespandaohyeah

Honestly hes a huge part of why the ducks have shown improvement this year theyre a lot better of a team when he plays and hes shown lots of leadership while taking strides in his defensive game. His point totals being down are a result of him having those lengthy injuries and the ducks current coach greg cronin not have a good offensive or powerplay gameplan for pretty much anyone on the roster. Zegras is the ducks most polarizing player and lots of people are opinionated on him but i definitely think its not out of the realm to see him have a jump in points next yesr if he stays healthy and the ducks change coaches to someone who prefers a rush style offense which would suit the teams young players so much better

@DanoFSmith-yc9tg

He needs to go back to number 46 by the looks of it.

@voodoo2plus1

We love zegras. Ducks fly together. He will figure it out with us.

@swaggaming2539

it’s the coach cronin repeatedly speaks out against zegras, benches him, puts him on the fourth line, and with what silververg and lybushkin had to say about cronin it’s no wonder all the youth in anaheim looks stunted, since cronin has come in each players numbers have declined. they lack leadership and bring in vets to cruise around and cash in the massive contracts gm verbeek gives them while lowballing our young players anaheims current state is a pure disgrace and if mctavish, carlsson, zegras, or mintyukov leave because of management im no longer a fan of this team
