Thanks for suggesting all of these. I like Duolingo for the stories as well and the audio. I like Minna no Nihongo textbook because of the immersion aspect of it (I just started the second book set - blue) and I really like the novellas from Minna no Nihongo - ミラーさん, there’s one for the red set and one for the blue set of Minna no Nihongo, found the novellas were really good for reading and for internalising the grammar and vocabulary from the textbooks. Dogen is great for pitch accent and the comedy factor.

Duolingo is great because it makes learning a language less intimidating. Sure, it won’t make you fluent, but it’s a good introduction to a new language.

I started learning japanese yesterday and am doing hiragana first. I hope to travel to Japan in a few years and love stuff like the culture and medieval Japan. May I ask what is the reason that you are learning japanese and what would you recommend I do after learning hiragana and katakana characters well.
