One thing that made my front room and dining room look much nicer is, hanging them almost to the ceiling. Where you don't see the space between the curtain rod and ceiling. Also I put my curtain rods about a foot wider on each side, that made my rooms look huge and elegant. Plus when I open the curtains, they can be opened all the way next to the sides of the window letting all the light in. I like all the decorating ideas you mentioned. I only wish this years ago.πŸ˜ƒ

Morning! Over the years I have been a fan, you offered a piece of advice which I have followed. Everytime you offered design tips and styles you ended with "do what you love" do what makes your home you. Thankyou for that. This simple honest statement, earned my respect and made me a fan. I have taken this to heart. I have followed your curtain advice....it did make a huge impact. Thanks for sharing and doing what you do! 😊

@janedoe-xn2pm

Hugely informative video, no fluff, no baiting, great examples that match the specific points, lovely pleasant voice and no annoying music or explosive sounds to make a point, flexible ideas and examples of how to customize for your home. BRAVO and thanks!

I love the conclusion at the end of the videoβ€”so true! Trends change all the time, but guidance is also important.

Great helpful ideas. I’m retired and on rainy days I go back and rewatch your videos. They give me so many ideas. Thank you πŸ™‚β€οΈ

I typically use drapes-- lined, and 100% LINEN--in master bedroom and living room. Guest room has a roman shade and the drapery I use on the dining room slider is a lined linen, 100 inches for a seamless look. I think "curtains" are something folks used a few decades ago. I can honestly say, I LOVE drapes and seeing how others use them! Thank you for all your tips and tricks on the sweet "curtains"! Love you so, so, so much!!

@kariburns7099

We just moved, and I am ready to hang the new curtains in our living room. This video validates that I know what I’m doing, so, of course, I love you!
I also love that these are more general suggestions and not hard and fast rules. The only time I’ve ever hung curtains short was in a bay window area of our 140-year-old Queen Anne, which had exquisite, tall baseboard trim and no crown molding. I used a continuous curtain rod to connect all the windows in the bay about 5 inches from the ceiling. I chose a set of lovely light-filtering ecru sheers so that they kissed the top of those amazing baseboards, and the compliments came pouring in. I just did this by feel, as I wanted to highlight the millwork in the home, one of the things that attracted me to it. I also used blackout cellular shades that stayed hidden at the top until we needed to pull them down to darken the room for movie watching.

One other rule I have, which is, paradoxically, hard and fast for me is how curtains and draperies appear from the street. I prefer all of them to look uniform from the street, usually lined in a soft white. For windows like bathrooms, laundry, or the kitchen, I will use shutters or nice roller shades, or something of that ilk.

Thanks for your well-thought-out and produced videos, and keep them coming!

@ChinUpMEK

Thank you for reminding people they can actually close their curtains lol. There are designers who believe curtains should remain at all times hanging perfectly outside the window, but this requires adding some sort of window covering that can close. That is not practical for many of us. I close my curtains as needed.

Also, I appreciate your philosophy that our homes are unique to us. 😊

@ActionsCreateWealth

As I was watching your video, I was looking at my curtains to see if I’m following the rules that you were talking about. And I have watched you for many years and I appreciate your opinions and guidance.

Thanks from a fellow Canadian.

@Roxy-sm6bi

Thanks!πŸ˜ƒ You made this so simple!

Wonderfully helpful!! Thanks for your work making this video πŸ§‘πŸ–€πŸ§‘πŸ₯°

@candylegedza3098

Drapes should have a 3 inch hem so cut them 6 inches longer than the required length and fold the extra three inches in. The extra fabric will give them the weight needed to hang properly

@lynnb4348

Great tips. I don't have any curtains, except my door wall. I hate the dust collectors.
