Apple were forced to move away from the lightening cable by the EU and probably lost a ton of money in licensing fees. They were never going to do anything revolutionary with USB C, just the bare minimum to keep selling phones in Europe.

my $1000 ipad often doesn't read usb drives and external ssd. My $200 android phone never has an issue. selling the ipad. tired of apple's nonsense.

One thing I don't get: What is the problem in having two cables when travelling? If you have the "space" to take two phones with you, you also have the space to take two charging-cables. these things are tiny. You are not carrying around a wallbox or one of those rolled up cord-extensions (Kabeltrommel). I don't know the English word for it. Cable Drum? "Yeah, but what if I lose one?" Okay. But what if you lose the other? Or both? Or... And listen closely... What if you take care and look after yout stuff? 😂 Sorry for the rant. I just don't get people complaining about non-problems.
