A company will never tell you they're about to lay off. Trust your gut if things are slow at work.
I was a restaurant server for all of my 20s. I’m in my 50s now and I still have nightmares of waiting tables.
Nobody has an emergency fund. Most Americans cannot afford a $1000 emergency. Our current jobs barely pay enough to cover food and rent. I'm so tired of hearing people say "emergency fund". It's not an option for a good chunk of the working class.
after 55yrs, i finally came to the conclusion that working for others is a lose lose lose endeavor. showing up on time, never missing a day, get along w others, doing your job, is just not enough. so now i work for me.
I don't blame the first girl! I used to be a waitress and bartender. I've had nightmares about the restaurant filling up and I'm the only waitress.
A Korean here. We dont give birth anymore because life is too harsh, having a baby became a luxury that normal people cannot even dare dream of. With no job security and rapid growth of inflation, the US is becoming a worse country than korea to raise kids.
I just turned 48 and found myself unemployed at the beginning of February for the first time in over two decades. This week marks my 2nd week of school as I’ve decided to pick up a completely new trade. I’m tired of relying on corporations to grant me the privilege of earning an income, provided I play their reindeer games and keep my mouth shut. I’m finally betting on myself instead. Thankfully I’ve lived a Dave Ramsey inspired fiscal life for quite awhile, so I’m able to attend this school while paying in cash and it’s not critical that I have immediate employment. I feel for the younger generations that aren’t setting themselves up to be self employed in some capacity.
Now ppl see why our grandparents fought so hard for Unions and workers rights, child labor laws etc
After my son hit 6th grade in public school. I pulled him out and home schooled him. He's 25 now and very successful.
This system HAS to fold. Watching the misery and depression of sisters and brothers locked into this soul-killing system is heartbreaking
What people are fed up with is, the fact that companies hire a skeleton crew and then force each employee do the work of two or three people if they want to keep their job!!!
The same people replacing people with Ai are the same people that required bachelors/masters degrees. It’s really messed up.
MY DAUGHTER IS A TEACHER AND WAS TOLD SHE HAD TO GET A SECONG MASTER'S DEGREE AND SHE TOLD THEM NO WAY AND WENT TO A SCHOOL 15 MILES AWAY AND GOT HIRED FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
I live by the motto, "Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do." Position yourself accordingly.
The kids are not alright.
I retired just 6 weeks ago from a 30+ year job. My supervisor and her supervisor visited the office and took me, plus three other people in my group, to lunch. They pretty much said I was retiring at a good time, because the company was looking at AI to replace a lot of the people who have the same role I did throughout the US. The others at the table got really quiet. They're not even hiding it anymore.
People need to get into the trades. I’ve been working in the trades (hvac)for 17 years right out of highschool. Worked for 2 companies for all of those years. Bought my first house at 24 for 99k. Sold for 155k. Bought second house 200k and sold for 250k. 5 years ago bought my forever home 3500sq ft 16 acres swimmin pool 2000 square foot shop in upstate SC. Already doubled in price but not selling. Btw I have wife and 7 kids and she stays home with them and homeschools so I’m the sole income. Started my own hvac company 2 years ago and killing it.
I waited tables 30 years ago and still have the occasional "in the weeds" nightmare. If you know, you know.
And, the worst thing is these corporate managers try to promote things like their employees are all like family.
