@MichiganGal123

I was decluttering my bathroom cabinets this weekend and I discovered lots of toiletries. I had forgotten I owned and I kept thinking I needed to go out and buy this fits in with your shop your house rule.

Sometimes we need to do things that bring us joy. If a latte does it sometimes, do it

@insulanerin7601

I "get to" buy 12 items of clothing a year (not counting socks etc.) . I made "ration coupons" for myself - 1 pair of Jeans, 1 skirt, 2 long-sleeved tops, 2 short sleeved tops etc. etc. I then figure out what I need/want for this year (1 T-shirt in color x, new winter coat ...) and wait for sales. This way, I spend about 500 Euros a year and get great quality items I actually wear.

@mariephillips1393

Thank you for these tips. You reinforce some of the things I already do, which helped me realize that I am doing something to reduce my spending. My neighbor and I are always sharing with each other. I am having surgery and I needed to create a recovery space. I shopped my house for a small table, a lamp, and something to hold my crochet supplies. I had everything in the house. I have also started waiting before I push the checkout button. I have been surprised by how many times I decided I just didn’t want the item. Thank you for these reminders

@sewgatormomm

Boycotting Amazon and Target has been a godsend. We have saved thousands and it was a reality check on how much crap we were purchasing that we just didn’t need. We never shopped at Walmart, so that was easy.

Here's a sewing challenge that is helping my spending in all areas right now. The "30-yard challenge" is to use 30 yards of the fabric already in your stash before buying any more. I started before the final Joann bankruptcy and refrained from making "one last trip". 10 yards down, 20 to go and when I take that one day break in August for my birthday 20% off one order, I have a well curated list--white jersey, white shirt fabric, an 2 tones of the same jersey to make a football jersey inspired fall tee shirt.

@mamma8786

Love it.
My favorite is check your stash before you buy.
Thrift store gift bags are 25c here the really big maybe 50c.

I also put things on my future calendar.
I have lots of Christmas gifts so I left a note to self on my calendar in SEPTEMBER to check my stash.

I save any wage increase I get. I work out how much it is a week and set up an automatic transfer. I was getting by without it so saving even a small amount helps.
Once our government changed legislation and that meant an increase in a payment I was getting by nearly $200 per fortnight. I saved that too. Now I have a six month emergency fund and that feeling is wonderful.

@js.3157

I always add something I want in the Amazon list and wait several days, weeks, and sometimes months to look at the items on the list. If I still want it, I buy it. It has saved me money because I do think I’ve removed things from the list more than I actually bought from it.

@IMeMineWho

Wait..if there was a womqn behind you, isn't SHE buying coffee or tea as well?🤔

@rev.ruthe.gallot9103

I love the idea of a yearly "cancel day". I recently made a list of all my subscriptions (not a long list) and decided which ones I would cancel when I retired (which is on the horizon). So, I think that I am going to do this in January each year, go through and reassess each one. Great video, thank you.

@margiesoapyhairbillian4754

I bought myself 🎉🎉🎉🎉 ice cream that was good for a diabetic 🎉!! It made me happy😊 and I got joy for 5 days in a row.

@evangeliapapaelia339

I am trying the cash every week rule. Once it runs out, no more buys, this applies to all my expenses, groceries etc

@Devie-q9g

I'm glad I don't immediately order my shopping list. Was going to buy now on eBay. Decided to keep looking every couple days. Thank goodness I did bc I got a notification that I won the highest bid. I would have ended up paying for the item twice and only needed one. But I got it. The one I wanted!

@CrikkaBee

I really love your channel. You are so cheery and upbeat. I bet you are a really good mom and a really good friend ❤

@MJG-d6s

I knew a woman who had probably 20 different kinds of shampoo in her house because she bought a new one whenever she saw an advertisement, thinking it would do something wonderful for her hair that the other ones hadn't. She finally stopped because her kids began to tease her mercilessly about it, and then she realized how much money she had tied up in unused products. She stopped buying more until her family had used it all up. She would probably never have changed if her kids hadn't started giving her such a hard time about it.

@cathyphillips679

I made a rule a couple of years ago not to buy anything that was going to be another monthly bill. The only things that I owe monthly are my phone and insurance. I am going to try the rule about only spending on odd days. I think that could really work for me.

@veronikayup

I always batch-cook anything that can be frozen (some things can't be like today's moules marinières), which also saves on energy - heating up the stove to make a whole sheet pan of pasta bake takes the same amount of heat as making a small baking dish of it.

I online shop no more than once a month (make all the purchases within a day or two after doing the month's finances and allocation) unless it's pet food (pets do not wait). Which means I put things on wish list and then decide weeks later if I still need or even want all of it (answer, usually not). I buy clothes 1-2 times a year and it's typically replacing items that have worn out (trousers that are still ok for lounging or gardening but no longer suitable for going in public). I also avoid disposable fashion and only buy durable quality items (then wear them on and on because I didn't buy them to hang in a closet).

All your tips are good, and it is nice to be reminded that what I do saves me money. It just seems a sensible way to live.

@katnockel2983

Spending on odd numbered days. I might make that weeks :), but like the idea of breathing space.
