I enjoy creating CLI programs of varying complexity, but mostly keep them simple and following the unix philosophy of creating small programs that do one thing well. Following this unix philosophy makes the process of making programs so much more enjoyable because you keep things simple and design your programs in a way that they can be used by other programs. For example, if I'm curious about an encryption algorithm, I'll write a program to encrypt some input text and output the ciphertext to stdout or a file. I might even make a separate program for decrypting instead of including it in the original program. It's just so clean and modular, it reminds me of when computing was simpler.
