I got a smart TV for my wife recently and I overheard her watching videos in the other room about some weird "natural" diet pill medicine the other day. Thought it was weird of her to be watching that, until I walked in ten minutes later and it turns out she just fell asleep watching YouTube on the TV and there was an HOUR LONG AD of this weird quack medicine playing. The absolute greed of YT to not only punish adblockers, and allow weird and potentially harmful shit to be shown in ads, but to make them an hour long, is just nuts lmao.
YouTube: Claims to be family-friendly Also YouTube: Forces you to watch ads Also YouTube: Allows ads for literal porn games
Love how youtube took all that time and energy to figure out how to block the adblockers but never figured out how to make the volume of the ads match the volume of the video you're watching so you're not suddenly having your eardrums blown out while listening to something to help you sleep
Making social media and video sites worse and more annoying to use is probably the best thing these companies can do for us.
He never watches ads. What an absolute legend
As an ublock origin user, I will jump through hoops for 15 mins to get rid of a 15 sec ad.
YouTube: "Watch ads so your favorite YouTubers can get paid" Also YouTube: *demonetizes/suppresses my favorite YouTubers for talking about world events*
User: "I'm being doxxed, help." YouTube: "Hang on, some kid's watching a CPR tutorial while using adblock."
This video is perfectly timed for me. I wouldn’t know what you were talking about a week ago but my friend just recently urged me to get adblock for the first time - only for Youtube to immediately crack down on adblockers two days later. It was great while it lasted, I guess
Idgaf how many times I have to reload the video, I will watch the content with no ads for pure spite factor.
Thanks to this I actually just spent an afternoon with my parents. They seem to be pretty nice people.
Imagine banning Ad Blockers but not SSSniperwolf ☹️☹️☹️
Adblock users are the most resilient community. We always find a way no matter what. It's not even about convenience anymore. It's about principle.
YouTube doubles down on pushing short videos, then counter attacks itself by making you watch an ad twice as long as those short videos
They actually train better adblocks this way and even more people use adblock now.
I think one of the worst thing about yt ads is that they put ads on those short unmonetized videos thats uploaded just for fun
I find it amazing that instead of looking into why people use adblockers, they just decide to ban adblockers
"Y'know what would spruce this site up? Making things MORE user-hostile!" YouTube boardroom claps uproariously
the fact that just by coincidence, when YouTube went alright no more adblock they also increased the price of YouTube premium incredible coincidence btw, definitely not screaming we want money
