I'm totally in agreement with the idea of sharing knowledge and avoiding information islands but I'm a bit worried you think the Hero is doing something morally objectionable by excelling. Why should we give our hardest working people "the benefit of the doubt" That implies they've done wrong.. by being the best of us.

Looks like you speak about `The Bus Factor` problem and all the related symptoms to it (Information Island etc..) who is described in the book `Software Engineering at Google` but with another naming? Kind of unconnected island problems in the manager layer here x'D

Hero culture is actually just having good workers. If you can't handle the workload, go work somewhere else. Want more money? Work harder.
